My daughter is the kind of person that wants to get things done, close the chapter and move on.
So she refused to re-take her ACT (score 33) and SATs (score 2160) and SAT II (Math, english and spanish - all between 720-760).

She has an outstanding GPA and decent ECs.....
Would her unwillingness to try to up her scores make her look bad/lazy to the Adcoms? (She is aplying to Duke, WashU, Emory, Vanderbilt, USouthCalif).
Does she need to explain why she did not re-take?

my s guidance counselor told him not to re-take the SAT’s with scores that he is happy with. She said it showed confidence. I admire your dtr for being confident enough to say enough and I’m happy with this. Her scores are quite high and she doesn’t need to worry.

My d didn’t retake any of her tests, even the SAT IIs which were lower than your d’s. She had excellent admissions results and is now at a top 50 university.

No, it doesn’t; in many (most?) cases, the app reader won’t even know how many times a student took the test – a clerk/volunteer writes the highest test scores on the outside of the applicant’s folder to make it easier for the reader.

But, to the OP’s question: those scores s/b fine for the schools under consideration ACT 33= SAT 1470). The only reason a retake might be considered is for merit money, but a slightly higher score probably won’t much matter.

If your daughter has an “outstanding GPA and decent EC’s”, she should be fine for those schools she is applying to. A score of “33” on the ACT would likely put her in the top 25-30 percent of admitted students for these schools. Understand that the standardized test scores are only one factor among many other weighted factors for admission (i.e., GPA, EC’s, academic rigor, essays, and recommendations). Her scores are excellent, if not perfect, but at any rate would put her in consideration for admission, pending the evaluation of her complete application.

Regarding perception of looking “bad/lazy”, no… I don’t think that will be happen. And no need to explain anything. ;-)

Lol! My S also made a 33 on his ACT and a 2160 on SAT. He also decided not to re-take either of them. He took both at the beginning of his junior year. Selfish me just wanted to see how much he could improve (if he did improve). This site can make you feel very insecure about test scores. I’m at the point now that if he’s happy, I’m happy.
