Not receiving an interview

A few other kids who applied EA received interviews for UChicago. I submitted my application several weeks ago and have not been contacted. Is this indicative of anything?

You don’t “receive” interview at UChicago, you request one. Everyone has the opportunity to request an interview once you get your UChicago Account–that happens once you submit either the Common App or UChicago Supplement. Once you have that, you can log in and there will be instructions on requesting an interview. If you’re close, you can have an in-office interview; if not, there are alumni interviews available all across the country.

What I meant to say is that I did request an interview as did other kids at my school. They contacted them but neglected to contact me. Is that a bad sign or does that reflect badly on my application?

They don’t select between people who request interviews; check your spam folder, then contact your regional admissions counselor. So no, it’s not a bad sign, probably just a glitch.

Do they select interviews based on the merit of the applicants or do all who express interest in an interview receive one?

Where can I find information about my regional admissions counselor and his/her contact information?

All efforts are made to accommodate students for Alumni Interviews, but we cannot meet full demand.

Having an Alumni Interview is not indicative of the relative merit of an application.

You can contact our office directly anytime at: https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/contact/

So it was by pure chance only that all the other kids at my school received interviews and I did not?

Most likely yes. There is also the possibility of a glitch – contact the admissions office if you really want one to see if there is a possibility of getting one. If you don’t get one for the EA round and you are deferred, you can also request one again I would imagine…
