I’m not much of a partyer and definitely will not be rushing. Based on FSU’s reputation, and pretty much EVERY single person in the facebook groups saying they’re rushing, I’m worried about feeling out of place/not finding people similar to me at FSU. I like to have fun, I just don’t party that much and am not into the Greek lifestyle. Any honest opinions/experiences?
Thanks so much!
You are not alone. My daughter is an incoming freshman as well, and she does not party and has no desire to be in a sorority…not that I am knocking anyone that does, but it is not her thing either. I thought the same thing on facebook, that everyone was rushing. My daughter is not against fun and she has no problem making friends, but the Greek lifestyle is not her thing either.
Same here with my daughter (maybe they need to form their own group ) Sorority participation is 25% which is kind of on the lower side. And according to surveys like niche.com the pressure to party is not bad compared to other schools. I wonder if the facebook group attracts the vocal minority of outgoing party type to post.
I have no doubt that FSU provides access to party as much as you want but I think the good thing is you can take advantage of it when you want and probably ignore it when you want to. At some point you have to get serious with the studies.
Maybe the other non partiers are not as active on Facebook?
mommdc, that is a great idea. If anyone wants to pm me I can let you look my d up on facebook.
Only 20% of the students are in a sorority or fraternity. 80% are like you.
Thanks everyone!
I think the people who want to rush are probably also the people most likely to be visible on a large facebook group-- the very very social, “I like groups” kids. People who just do their own thing their own way aren’t as likely to be so out there, y’know?
