I just got my AP scores back today, and they went pretty well overall. Out of the 6 AP exams that I took sophomore and junior year, I passed 4 of them (5,4,4,3) and failed 2 (2,1). I was wondering if it would matter if I just submitted the 4 that I passed. Would colleges be suspicious of the fact that I didn’t submit 2 of them? In those 2 classes I got a B+ and an A-.
No. They can’t judge you on things you didn’t submit.
Go ahead and just submit the scores you want to submit- no worries.
@izrk02 @RichInPitt thanks! I’m planning on majoring in statistics, so my AP Stat (4), AP Calc (5), and AP English (4) are the ones that matter the most, and I probably wont take physics or history (the ones I got a 3,2,1 on). I just didn’t want them to question why I didn’t send 2 of the scores (I’m still probably going to send the 3 in AP Physics 2), and assume that I did bad on the tests.
I had the same question on behalf of S21. Wondering if omitting just some scores will look weird to admissions - they can see on transcript that he took the AP classes. S got mostly 4s and 5s but also two 3s. Considering omitting the 3s.
There’s another thread on this, where it was suggested to not send the 3s. But, why wouldn’t the AOs think the kid scored even worse? I don’t know the answer, but our older S self-reported all his scores, including the 3s. Given that D/S21 each also have a 3, I think that’s what they’ll do, unless we can find out from an AO a real answer. Maybe we’ll ask a few AOs.
My D20 only self reported 5s - Calc BC and Stats - leaving off AP Art History and Computer Science A and had very good admissions results last year.
Yep, and my D20 reported all scores two 5s, two 4s and two 3s and also had great admissions results last year. I think the moral of the story is that the AP exam scores are not really a determinative factor in admission decisions and at the most selective colleges it’s “holistic” and will take numerous data points into consideration.
People forget that not everyone takes the test. So an adcom is not necessarily going to assume a low score. My son did not take one of his AP exams last year as it conflicted with the state swim meet and the alternate date conflicted with something else. Neither of my kids took the AP Computer Science Principles exam as no colleges on their lists offer any credit for it.
