Not sending in scores immediately

Hello CC, this is a redirected thread from the harvard forums (where I posted, but i figured you guys might know a bit more/have the same ideas)

Hey guys, i just took the Jan 24 SAT (my first time, im a junior) but I didn't choose any schools to send it to. I was thinking of waiting until I got my scores back then maybe sending the scores (with a late fee) depending on what the scores were. However, I was wondering if this might have a negative impact on me? If (Harvard, for instance) got the scores late, would they think that I was unsure/uncertain of my own abilities and hold that against me? Or are there really no negative impacts of paying the late fee and sending the scores later?

Harvard and other schools do not care when you send in your scores as long as they are in by their respective senior year deadline. This is a non-issue. My son sent in four scores to schools he was positive he'd be applying to because I'm a cheapskate and we knew his list early on - but lots of students have no idea junior year what schools they'll be looking at yet. If you can identify some safety schools and want to save a few bucks you can send scores to those schools, but with score choice, you may prefer to play it safe and see what your scores are first.
