NOT Signing the Cursive Statement on the SAT

I just took the June SAT this weekend and the proctor in our room told everyone not to sign the cursive statement on the back of the test. There were one or two kids who did it and she made them erase it, because according to her, "You only sign the certification on the fall test."

So our entire room did not fill that box out. People wanted to speak up to tell her that she was wrong but no one did.

Is not filling out that section going to delay/possibly even cancel our scores??

I’m pretty sure you DO need to sign the statement. It’s possible that all of the people who didn’t sign it (which appears to be everyone) won’t get the score.

Call the CollegeBoard and complain about that proctor.

And btw, the fall test is only for that Wake Forest thing which hasn’t even started.

You should be signing it. I took the SAT last June and I remember signing it. Talk to the College Board about this:

[Contact SAT by e-mail, phone or mail](<a href=“The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board”>Contact Us – SAT Suite | College Board)

I’m not too sure if they’ll cancel your scores just because you didn’t sign the certification, but I wouldn’t chance it.

I don’t know where she got that idea regarding Fall. Definitely call.

Hahaha why would she do that? It’s hilarious that she made two students erase the statement. I can just imagine a few students slyly writing the statement like they should be and then getting yelled at. I really hope it works out for you!

You need to sign it, but you don’t have to copy the statement in cursive, I printed it on my last SAT and got my scores just fine.

Interesting. I asked my proctor when she started to dismiss us about it (we had not signed it yet) and she said that nowhere in her materials did it state it was necessary. Due to mine, and a few other students’ insistence, we signed it. But maybe college board misprinted the proctor’s materials for this test?

The SAT Proctor Robot had a malfunction. Maybe she was programmed wrong?

I wish the proctors were robots.

Coincidently, I just made the same mistake today…can anyone tell me what happened? did they give you your scores back? :(

If the proctors were robots, there would be no possibly way to go back to a section because the robots would detect it.

What an idiot.

Yeah, I took it today, and we had to sign it. Usually, if you just forget to write the statement, they cancel your scores because you haven’t agreed not to share any information. But what you had is called a testing irregularity and they might make an exception or let you take it again at a later date for free. Contact the collegeboard and report the testing irregularity (your proctor) and see what they say.

So…what if I wrote the statement but forgot the signature…would that make any difference?

Agreed.
It would be easier to cheat as welll

@wjktlana the signature is one of the most important parts. Idrk what they will do, but I recommend you call the collegeboard. they will probably make an exception and have you sign a new statement then.

I know for certain that you need to sign the certificate in cursive. I have a friend whose proctor forgot to have them sign for the may test, and all of their scores were unfortunately canceled. Call the college board, make a complaint, and ask if there is anything you can do (sign it and fax it in, ect.) because this truly isn’t your fault. If another incompetent proctor ever says something like that again, refuse their instructions, fill it out, and demand to speak to another proctor if they argue. So sorry this happened to you!

Thanks for the info :frowning:
Was your friend able to retrieve his score back or did he just have to retake it again…

They really need to stop hiring from the local community college.
