Not Smart... Please No Criticism

currently after my freshman year my gpa is 2.67. My first quarter sophomore gpa was 3.1. so i am improving. What kind of colleges should i be looking for. I have very good extra curricular activities and a school I'd really like to go to is Boston University.

bump…

is you black or latino? If not forget about anything but community college. You got a 2.67, and then a 3.1? That don’t cut it.

only community college?

maybe some lower ranked state schools.

Hey there. I would say that as of right now, BU is a slight reach. Keep in mind, they accept large amounts of students (around 20%) with grades similar to yours. You advantage is that you have good ec’s. This will make you stand out compared to other people with your grade range.

You didn’t put much info, but I would say that if you like BU you should look at schools like Northeastern, which I think you have a good chance at, and Syracuse University, which is a little colder than the two Boston schools but still really strong.

Good luck with everything!

wut should i be aiming for for a school like BU. I’m regretting that my freshman year was that bad but now i’m trying to improve

i am a 3rd degree black belt in taekwondo. I have been training for 10 years but have been around it my whole life because my dad is a well-known grandmaster throughout the world.

i play soccer at a nike premier club

student senate

a couple of things tht pop up immediately not all

There are many 4 year colleges you will qualify for
Work a bit harder and you will be fine

it’s probably too early to tell, but it’s well known that a steady increase in GPA is a strong factor in admissions. give it a year and see where you’re at before you rule anything out.

***? you’re a sophomore! you have almost three years to get your grades up, and it’s way too early to seriously start thinking about colleges. for now, get your grades up, prep for the SATs for next year, and THEN start seriously thinking about where you’d like to go.

as of right now, you probably wont get into a top 50 college, but there are still 2950 other colleges you’ll have no problem getting in. Dont compare yourself to the kids on this forum. A 3.1 is actually above average for a typical high school student

whoever said all you can do is community college is wrong… just keep working hard throughout high school. and a 2.67 does not mean you’re not smart. you have a 3.1 now! just never lose hope, because you’ll do fine. state schools are still COLLEGE.

There are a bunch of schools that don’t count any of your grades from freshman year. Keep improving, do well on the sats, and you should be fine.

work hard stay strong!

jersey girl, its never to early to start looking at colleges. and rhyurks many colleges dont count freshman year grades, and alot of colleges love to see steady improvement. keep studying get your grades up and youll be fine. and there are plenty of options besides community colleges dont get down

many people on this website have a tendency to take their high marks and outstanding scores to mean they can act as an admissions counselor!!

the fact that your on this site proves you care about your future. You’re grades will come up, get involved, study hard, and make good choices, you’ll do fine, and if BU is your dream school, you needa work your tail off. Good Luck!!

and its refreshing to hear people like bazooka give positive encouragment, lord knows if had some negative things here.. :]

thanks guys right now i’m looking at several schools

UNH (i live in town)
Loyola in chicago (I know the head of some doctor thing haha)
BU(It seems like a school I’d like)
Northeastern(idk)

seriously i’m amazed at how well you guys do in school. u guys are asking for ur chances on ivy leagues i gave up those dreams a long time ago haha

I think you should think less on what you can into and do your best. This means that you pull your GPA as high as you can, take the hardest classes, excel like crazy on your Ec’s. Also, remember to have fun.

Then think about fit and most likelyness to get into a school. In that order. I looked at BU and hated it. I thought I loved it but I ended hating it. So go look at schools and find that fit in a couple years from now.

Good luck and just have fun at high school. It won’t be the end of the world if you don’t get into Top 50 schools.
