USC is my dream school. In 8th grade I took pre Ap Algebra 1 and AP Spanish. 7th grade took pre AP Spanish. In algebra 1 my average was around an 83 for the whole year. in Pre AP Spanish it was an 89 And Ap Spanish was around an 85. ( 4 on the AP exam) I am now a junior. Freshman year weighted GPA was a 4.15 and uw- 3.7… sophomore year weighted- 4.375 and unweighted 3.89 My grades junior year are very similar to sophomore year ( I have also taken 5 AP classes within sophomore and Junior year)… I am very worried that 8th grade and 9 th grade grades could be reducing my chances of admissions…The school I go to is VERY smart school I am in the top 16% even though I believe I am doing very well. I know they don’t pay too much attention to those years but I plan on majoring in business which I am aware that it is a very competitive pool of people… throughout high school my grades have extremely increased… I am planning on doing very well on my standardized tests… I have MANY extracurriculars I am involved in and some are even business related. And I also plan to do very well on my essays… any tips or advice on this situation?? what do you think my chances are? (out of state btw)
Your 8th grade grades I don’t think will matter, colleges only look for your high school 9-12 transcript/grades. Your GPA UW & W looks good for USC…make sure you keep UW at 3.7+ to stay competitive. As for SAT or ACT, I’d aim for 1410+ or 30+ respectively. That insures you’ll be in the top 25% of applicants w/ a better chance at acceptance. Business is a competitive major, so having strong EC’s are key, having leaderships positions in these EC’s help a lot too (president, vp, treasury, etc.)
As of now I think you have a good chance, that being said having safeties is important…having a diverse list with some reaches and matches is a good precaution!
aim for 1450/32+ instead.
