Hello, i'm a sophomore right now and i WAS looking for summer programs.
I've looked into many pre-college programs and such but then i talked to my parents about it and they freaked out because of the costs (er, we are moving to a new country, need a place to live, need cars...you get the picture)

So, my parents came up with an alternative..
1) Go to community college and still get some credits.
2) Do a lot of volunteer work
3) Work at family business (obviously...)
4) Get Driving license

I really wanted to go to those pre-college programs but i don't think i can go.
Do you think this looks efficient enough (number 1 and 2 i mean)..

Spending a summer volunteering looks really great on college apps, especially if you stick with one or two organizations that you feel passionately about. It really shows that you care about something other than yourself, and colleges like that. Plus, it's not like you don't have another summer to go to these pre-college programs. If money is a problem, try to get a job and save up for it if it's really that important.

Get a license= more power= more things that you can do= betteer chance of going to a better college= making more money= better car= better house= possible bettter lfie.

or

work at the family business= meeting awesome new customers= gain vaulablle experience= money now and later= buy more SAT books= higher SAT= better college= better chance of finding a job= better chance of making more mney= a greater chance of material happiness

Do something fun, like take a vacation or rent a beachhouse with friend. We are all kids and we all still have at least 70 years more to live and suffer.

Can't you do either of the first three and get your driver's license?

Having either a lot of work experience and volunteering are both good for personal growth and college apps. However, you could always do what I did during my summer from 10th-11th, and work/volunteer for one month and just have fun for the rest of it.

try looking for cheaper programs next year bc my parents aren't willing to pay thoussands to send me anywhere ..but there's a summer program im applying to at carnegie mellon that's free! and im sure there are more like that if you look hard enough
