The only thing "unique" about me is that i comee from a semi-poor family and still have okay grades, but i dont think that will help much. oh, and i'm asian which makes it worse/tougher.

I would like all of your honest opinions. BTW i'm entering my senior year, so is there any way to increase my chances now?

i know those stats are lacking but i want to attend ucla/ uc davis/ cornell/ yale

To be honest, i think Yale and Cornell are mid to high reaches. If you can manage to take the SAT 1 again and go for at least 2100, you can increase your chances at UCD. RIght now UCD is your match, if you can jsut boost that SAT up. As for UCLA, i think that’s also a med-reach. If you could boost your statistics more it would help a lot. GPA + SAT are most deciding factors in admission, as long as you have those everything else is just icing.

Lol they aren’t that good. Nothing outstanding, i didn’t win any major awards, just had some volunteer service, played instruments, decent gpa and sats. The only thing that kinda makes me stand out is my arthritis. Pretty sure no one applying to college has that :P

What’s your class rank/percentile? Top 10%? Your UW GPA is good enough, however your weighted GPA seems a little low. It seems like you may be lacking in some Honors/AP courses, and colleges do take notice in regards to the difficulty of your courseload.

Your SAT is a little low right now, I would recommend trying to go for 2100+ (2200+ would be ideal) in order to really boost your chances. Have you ever taken the ACT? You may do a lot better on it since the format and content are fairly different. Try for a 33+ on the ACT. Also, it would help if you took a couple SAT II/Subject Tests. Although many colleges don’t require them, many do prefer to see a couple. Regardless, it can only boost your chances if you have one or two subject tests that are 700+ (750+ is best).

As for your ECs, you are definitely lacking in this area. At this point, there isn’t really anything you can do about it. However, on your application try to mention anything that you were involved in even if it wasn’t an official club/competition (e.g. golf :D) and maybe phrase it in some way that puts you in a more positive light. I’m not saying you should embellish anything, but the last thing you want to do is just crudely list a few minor activities/clubs and leave it at that.

With all honesty, at this point I would say:

Yale - Extremely High Reach
Cornell - High Reach
UCLA - Mid Reach
UCD - Match

Try and get a couple excellent letters of recommendation and also write amazing essays. The essays can really make all the difference so they should be your main focus right now. I hope you (and me) make it into Yale or Cornell so we can maybe play a couple rounds of golf (if you don’t mind playing against an average player)

i never really scored well on writing 570. any tips on the sat essay?

sure sat128, golfing would be fun with an average person, i play and practice with my sis and friends of mine. they are plus handicaps. i always place last, would be nice to win for once lol sucks cant even get coaches from nice school to even look up my name or in my direction at a tournament

My advice for the SAT is this: PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Buy the College Board official study guide with 10 real practice tests. I used that and went from a 1950 to a 2240 in a month.
