Not Submitting a Resume

A school gave me the option of including a resume, but I felt that I had exhausted all of my awards and extracurriculars in the general application itself. I filled all possible slots and gave a concise but complete summary of my commitments to each activity. I felt that a resume would be redundant, because I didn’t feel like I had much more to say on the topic.

My friend applied to the same school and said that she thinks the resume is critical. Even if it was just going to be a rehashing of my application form, did I screw myself over by not including it?

you’re fine. Indeed, colleges appealed to Common App to remove the optional resume upload feature. They complied. If your activities are encapsulated well then you’re golden. Your friend’s reaction is in line with the common overemphasis that HS students place on ECs. They PALE in comparison to the transcript and essays/LORs. ECs matter very little.
