Please shed some light on what I should do?
I am in the top 10% of my class, but in the far lower end of it. My class size is around 600 btw. My school offers a Certificate of Rank which states my exact number out of the class size… which I believe will hurt me. It just shows that much people were ahead of you in terms of weighted GPA.
I only want to submit top 10%, not my exact number given on Certificate of Rank. Should I self report top 10% on Common App, without any validation from the school?
Im applying JHU ED and MIT EA.
Usually your rank is given on your official transcript with gives the numerical rank in your class along with your percentile. So if you were 50 out of 600 your transcript would probably say : Rank-50 Class Size-600 Percentile-92%.
At least that’s what mine gives.
By omitting the class rank, the school will still estimate your rank by school profile report and other means. The final result may be worse. I really don’t see why you want to hide and top 10% rank. It may lead the adcom think something even worse.
Bump. I’m only submitting top decile not my numerical rank!
It is still a question on the report submitted by the guidance counselor. You want to learn how he or she reports this. And, not all hs report it on the transcript, but adcoms will see your rigor and grades.
