So, the story is that I originally wanted to be a Video Game Programmer, but then I had a change of heart when I learned that I was good at chemistry and decided that I wanted to be a Pharmacist.

So now I'm thinking about going back to wanting to be a Video Gamer programmer, with only a semester left till I head to college ( I'm graduating early )

But I'm hesitant. I know being a Pharmacist will make lots of money and let me live a very easy life, but I can't say I'll really enjoy filling up prescriptions and talking to old people all day. I already work as a clerk, and have helped out in the pharmacy when needed, so it's not something ill enjoy deeply, but I won't kill myself over it. Not to mention, I think I'll enjoy college, due to the fact that it will mostly be Chemistry.

If I become a Video Game Programmer, then I'll be making an average salary of about 50k when I start, peaking at just below 100k if I stick with it. But I'll enjoy my job, and I'll love what I do. College will also be fun, and 2 years shorter than if I went into pharmacy.

So. my question to you dear readers, is that should I go through with my change and become a Programmer, do what I love and what not, or stick with pharmacist and make lots of money/have a great lifestyle?

pharmacy isn’t a guarantee to easy street. used to be, but not any more. most pharmacy jobs these days are at national chains like walmart, target, cvs and walgreens. they don’t have the greatest reputation for taking great care of their employees. you are on your feet all day. the hours can be bad. if you decide to move to a different state you have to take the test over again.

I work at CVS, and you are correct about the hours, they are not always great :

I’ve talked to my boss a bunch, and I know that CVS gives 100k+ salaries to fresh graduates, and that’s all that really matters to me in that field(Lots of money = comfortable life).

It is not the national chains like walmart, target, cvs, walgreens you need to be worried about it is more so places like kaiser. I know a pharmacist who worked for kaiser and says she has to fill about 2,000 prescriptions a day at kaiser, while at cvs she fills maybe about 400 on a day and the pay is roughly the same.

The mean annual salary of pharmacists is $106,630. If you are looking at 100K straight out of pharmacy school, you should not expect any significant raises after that.
