Not sure how much this will help...

This past year as a junior I won the Yale Science and Engineering Award at my state science fair. My dad apparently thinks this is an important sign that I would have a good chance for yale because of it. I am skeptical however. Also I plan to major in something math/science rather than history/pol science which I've heard are yale's strengths, so I am not sure if Yale would be a good fit for me or if that would give me a disadvantage in getting in? Any clarification/comments would be appreciated.

If anything, that would give you an advantage.
That sounds like a great award. Good job!!!!

The science and engineering awards are like the Yale Book awards. They're there to get Yale's name out (believe it or not, even Yale needs to promote itself), but they don't mean Yale admissions is especially interested in you. It's great that you won the award, but I don't think it will gives you a hook or anything like that.

Yale is plenty strong in math and science. I'd read up on the school in a college guide and see how the vibe sounds to you.
