Not sure if I can compete with everyone else

Schools I'm considering so far for engineering:

Cornell
MIT
Carnegie-Mellon
University of Virginia
Virginia Tech

Personal Background: I guess you can say that I'm an African-American though I was originally born in Ghana (located in West Africa). I've lived in the US for about 5 years now. I've already gotten my citizenship.

Family: My dad has a PhD in Civil Engineering from a university in Canada. My mom has a nursing degree. We aren't a low-income family.

Grade: Currently a Junior (11th grade)

GPA: 3.97 W (calculated using only grades from freshman and sophomore year)
My school doesn't do UW GPA. Additionally, the grading scale during my freshman and sophomore year wasn't the traditional 10 point scale that we recently switched to in the beginning of my junior year.

SAT Scores: I should have those results on Thursday :)

Class Rank: Not sure but I think I'm in the top 25%

Honors and AP classes I've taken in past years:
Algebra I Honors
Algebra II Honors
Chemistry I Honors
Geometry Honors
Biology Honors
English 10 Honors
AP World History

Current Semester Grades (remember, I'm a junior)

AP US HIstory: A
AP Language + Composition: A
AP Psychology: A-
AP Computer Science: A-
Physics I Honors: A-
Precalculus with Trig Honors: A-
French 3: A

AP Test Scores:

5 on the AP World History exam that I took during sophomore year. It was the only AP available to sophomores.

ECs:
Math Honor Society (11th grade)
French Honor Society (11th grade)
Our school's FRC robotics club (FRC = FIRST Robotics Competition)
JV Track + Field (9th and 10th grade)
Cross Country (9th and 10th grade)

Awards:
Academic Letter (for having a GPA above 3.7 during freshman year)
Academic Letter (for having a GPA above 3.7 during sophomore year)

Course Selection for Senior Year:

AP Calculus BC
AP Comparative Government
AP Literature
AP Physics C
AP Chemistry
AP French
Study Hall
Maybe I'll self-study AP Econ

Heh, well I say that it's hard for me to compete with everyone else on here because I don't have as many ECs and awards. My school doesn't really have many clubs that I'm interested in and I didn't want to join them just to have something to add to my resume. Honestly, I haven't really looked into volunteering opportunities. I guess the only good things I'll have are my grades. I'm still nervous about my SAT scores, even though I'll be getting those on Thursday since I took the test for the first time in January.

Feel free to say what you need to say. I'm just here to see if I'll be able to do fine in college admissions next year. Suggestions and tips are also welcome :)

Cornell- 75%
MIT-45% (it wasnt because you arent good enough, it is more that other applicants are just better)
Carnegie-Mellon- 99%
University of Virginia- 95%
Virginia Tech- 100%

good luck!

Not alot of awards/ECs.

I’m not too good at this, but I think that ‘SuperHenderson13’ has put your chances a bit too high :/

Yeah, I was a bit surprised by the high chance percentages.

alright, now that i look i probably gave you more chances in cmu, cornell, and mit… but i think those other two colleges are matches for you

you dont have to worry about virginia tech and uva. for cmu everything looks good so far but its hard to tell without your sat scores. based on what you have here, id say u have a good chance. i really have no idea about cornell without your sat scores. mit is probably a reach but it is for everyone.

why dont you post your sat scores here once you know them? that should help.

and i wouldnt mind a chance back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/861966-chance-me-please-cmu-cornell-wvu-others.html</a> :)

Just got SAT results

670 on Math, 610 on Critical Reading, and 670 on Writing for a total of 1950 overall. I was hoping to do better :(
