Okay, so to start off I'm a Freshman biology major at a top ten public University. Although I really love the school/town/people, I really feel like I'm missing something with my education. I know my school is good for what I want to study, but I really don't feel like I'm being challenged to any extent. I really want a broader education which will help me improve my writing/speaking skills and teach me about the world/history/western canon, etc. The school I'm at now just feels like a diploma factory. Some schools I'm looking at are the Claremont McKenna Colleges, Duke, Penn, Occidental, and Rice, but I'm open to any good private colleges. I got a 4.0 this term, and my test scores are relatively good (30+ ACT and 700+ subject tests.) However, I haven't joined any clubs/organizations in college yet, but my ECs from high school are really good. I don't really think I stand a chance at any top Private schools, and I like where I'm at, so that's why I'm so confused.

My second dilemma is that although I like biology, I don't know if I feel passionate about it. I feel kind of "trapped" into being a science major since my school isn't really profound in anything else and I want job security in the future. I'm really considering being a philosophy major or something similar, but I wouldn't want to do that where I'm at now, and I don't know what job prospects there would be for me. Also, I've considered film a dream job of mine, but I don't think that's very realistic. Also, my school doesn't have a film program.

I'm not sure if anyone can really help me, but if you can, it would be greatly appreciated! The schools I'm considering have a March 15 application deadline, so I have some time.

tl;dr: I love everything about my school except I don't feel challenged and I'm looking for more of an intensive education (ie. those schools with core programs and senior theses.) I like my bio major but I'm not sure if I love my major; I may be happier in something like Philosophy which will really improve my writing/analytical skills and broaden my horizons. Also, I would love to go into film (any part of it, but particularly screenwriting/directing/cinematography), and I don't think I can do that with a biology degree.
