Currently my major is electrical engineering, however there is a possibility i'll switch to another engineering major. Currently i was planning on taking ECE 15, however I'm scared i'll be wasting my time if i dont like it. Would i be wasting my time since ill still get units or should i take a GE as if I'm undeclared? (What GE?)

It depends on your college. Look at your college’s GEs.

You can always try it out and drop within the first four weeks with no penalty.

I;m going to be in warren

Well the issue for me is not about the penalty, but about wasting my time =

^Gotcha. You need 3 classes from a department in the Fine Arts/Humanities and 3 classes from a department in Social Sciences. They’re called Area Studies. Check this website out. It’ll have everything you need to know. If anything is confusing, ask me because I was confused at this time last year too.

Thanks, i was looking at this earlier but your explanation really helped. I’m currently thinking of possibly switching to computer engineering. When i look at the 4 year plans on the UCSD website, it shows that CSE requires ECE 35, ECE 45, etc, but not ECE 15, so am i still wasting a class? Engineering isnt under my area studies since its not in social sciences or humanities/fine arts.

I have a few more questions slightly off topic.

If i got a 5 on microeconomics, i can knock off a course under social sciences correct?

If i got a 4 on Calculus AB and Statistics, I’m done with my formal skills as well right? However, i would need to take classes like Math 20B just because it’s a prerequisite for some lower division and upper division course right?

^I would recommend taking courses that count for both EE and CE so you wouldn’t lose any ground if you switched majors. I don’t know how many classes there are of those, but I’m not an engineering major, so I wouldn’t know. Now for your questions.

Yes for econ, so you would need two more upper div econ classes to be done with the Area Study.

Yep

Thanks a lot KingsElite. I couldnt really see any in the 4-year plans but academic advising with counselors begin today so i’ll ask if they have any. (:
