I'm an artist (used in a somewhat liberal sense). I really like to paint and draw and whatnot. Lately, after some of my neighbors and friends (namely their parents) have seen my work, they've all been asking me to paint something for them or commission a piece (informally and for free, of course). Since these are all friends and neighbors and incredibly informal, and since I'm doing this out of my free time just to give them something nice, I'm not sure if painting for them would make it onto my common app or my resume.

Should I still include this activity as an EC? Would colleges even accept something so informal?

You should definitely include that you are an artist. And if you have sold your work to actual people thats even better. Show the schools your passion for art and stuff and that will definitely be a good thing to add to your app.

^but there is no way you can prove it? (in case if the colleges are going to ask for proof)

that you are into art? or that you sold something?

That’s exactly my dilemma. Though some have offered to pay me, I have always declined and offered to do it for free. There will be no official record of this nor will there be any record of financial transactions. The colleges could call some of them up, but that’s not much better than the honor system. Though I would like to include this to show them I really am passionate about art, it’s difficult to verify.

that you are into art.

oh that’s simple, just tell them about it or write about it in your essay or something. If you really are passionate about art, then it will come off in your application somehow.
