Not sure what to do about my calculus classes

I am a mech engineering major, and didn't take AB or BC calc this past year, so to level the field a bit for myself I decided I would at least take Calculus 1 at a local university this summer. This class would probably not even be half as difficult as it is at Berkeley, though. I looked at a sample Math 1A final and compared it to the final that I take at my local university, and I could barely do half of the questions on the Berkeley final - and the questions just seemed to be on a level above what I was taught.

I was planning on taking Calc 2 at the local university next, which is taught by a teacher who seems to have an increased difficulty level since the standards at the local university are largely dictated by the professor teaching.

My questions are, would it be useful to take the next calculus class, and try to get credit for both of them? Just Calculus 1? Will a slightly weaker background be surmountable in later math and engineering classes? Or would it be better to just leave it as is, take both classes again at berkeley?

Thanks for the help

Math classes at Berkeley are another animal. Math 1b (aka Calculus 2) has the highest fail rates on campus. However, by taking it on campus, it does enable you to have a stronger foundation especially if you’ve never taken calculus before.
