Not sure what to do

@snowleopard2022 You might might want to reconsider Stony Brook. I assume you are honors college. If so, you get the small school attention with big school resources.

@Huskymaniac Well, it means something that you assumed I got in. But I didn’t get into the honors college or WISE. If it were the case, I would have considered SBU a lot more. Anyways, the difference in financial aid/scholarships was not anything too big and I get the feeling that they would change it on a yearly basis. It would probably have less resources for me as well.
Though, I committed to Williams already and I’m pretty tense about the decision I made as is…

Williams has more resources than SBU for fewer students.
(Williams’s endowment is 2,568 BILLION. Stony Brook’s is 260 million, which is not bad but not in the same universe as Williams.).

I think we should respect OP’s decision at this point, not throw any last minute shade at it. Maybe if latecomers read the thread, they’ll see how it progressed.

If OP has questions that come up, the thread is still here. Or another can be started.
OP, there will be posters to walk you through issues this fall, too.

@snowleopard2022 , I know it’s hard not to be tense about your decision, but really, it’s a good one, because you have made it carefully and in good conscience. Stony Brook will be there if you give Williams a wholehearted try and ultimately decide that SB would serve you better, but that isn’t a thought process you need to keep in the forefront for now. As another commenter wisely suggested, think of this like a year abroad, with an option to stay. It will be a challenge and an adjustment, but it will be a phenomenal learning and growth experience, no matter what you decide to do in the years that follow. The transfer application deadline for SB isn’t until March 1st, so resolve to table any and all second-guessing until after your first Winter Study experience. You have already thought this through, diligently and with unflinching self-awareness. (Well, maybe you flinched, lol, but you kept going!) Put on your purple swag and forge ahead with pride and anticipation - you have a big fan club rooting for you.

Congratulations!! You will have a terrific college experience at Williams. You had great choices and clearly are quite mature and thoughtful. Best wishes for the future!

Williams is a really beautiful campus. My son did a math camp there and loved it. Congrats!! Don’t look back. Either Williams or Amherst will have pros and cons…but honestly they are both such great schools, and you will have so many opportunities. Congratulations!

It’s really nice that you think I’m thoughtful, but too much thinking comes with its drawbacks. I wrote that the decision gave me relief and that was not even the case for a second. The nervousness before is now just full on dread… I was expecting this at least a few weeks from now.

Breathe… yes, overthinking can be a curse.

But remember that as immediate and all-consuming as this process has felt, you now have almost four months to regroup and prepare. Try to step back from anticipating (a.k.a. dreading) the college experience itself, and think instead about what supports you can seek out, both for how you’re feeling right now and to put a robust support structure in place for the future. It seems that you have been toughing out a lot of stress and anxiety in high school. You have done such a phenomenal job of seeking help with your college decision, in this forum. Can you use those same skills to seek help with your anxiety? If online interaction is what works best for you, there are anxiety coaching and counseling resources that are delivered that way. Do you think you can shift your focus from this particular source of anxiety, to getting some help with the anxiety itself?

OP, we’re always our own harshest critics. Think about that.
Sometimes, it does pay to breathe and ease up a little. You may feel emotional pulls. But how you express yourself show assets.

You’re probably not going to like Williams. You’re going to love it! Check back at Christmas and let us know how you are doing. And then after finals in the spring.

Also, you were saying… I flinched, well it was more like full on panic. I was constantly thinking that I made the wrong decision by not choosing Amherst over the past few days, that I had to “justify” choosing Williams. Well, I guess that sort of thinking is what’s wrong. I am currently trying to get help but online is also a good idea!

They were pretty similar in the first place, so my experience will only be what I make of it (reminder to myself if I come back here tense again). Getting something with Williams’ name on it would probably help as well, after all, buying stuff is fun!

Aaand Williams is not lucky to have me yet, I have to do something to prove that… the only thing is that it would either be very difficult with all the other brilliant students or maybe easy for the same reason. Hopefully I won’t need to come back to the site in a while, since I do that usually when I’m nervous… but if I need it, I know there are many willing to help

@snowleopard2022 Congratulations on your decision! I’m rooting for you.

Don’t feel you have to prove anything to yourself or anyone else. You have a wonderful opportunity ahead of you. The best part is being surrounded by other bright, hard-working peers for the next 4 years. Focus on developing your talents and expanding your horizons. Marvel at what those around you have done and do. Try not to let doubt and anxiety steal this experience from you. Most of all, savor every minute.

Go. Enjoy. Stop beating yourself up over your anxieties. It’s perfectly ok.

Congratulations!

Yes, Williams already is lucky to have you.
They offered you admission because they wanted you.
You accepted.
So Williams got what they wanted – that makes them lucky!

HI @snowleopard2022 . How are things going for you? We’d love to hear an update.

@Lindagaf Unfortunately the OP hasn’t been on CC since August.
