For quite a while now, I've been interested in aerospace engineering. Within the past month, I started to also look into environmental engineering, as it seemed like a career in which there would be more field work, as opposed to being inside all day. However, now I'm beginning to doubt what I want to go into. I'm still pretty sure engineering is what I want, but I don't know what type. Can someone maybe give me a rundown on say the two types I already mentioned, and then maybe biomedical, electrical, and bioeng (career prospects, what it involves, what sorts of interests help) from a personal point of view?

Start by asking yourself what subject you like the best physics, geology, biology, chemistry, Calculus ect… Then ask yourself what your long term goal is and what and why you want to become an engineer?

Thus webpage will help you out. Read the whole thing to get a much better understanding of engineering disciplines.

If you like field work then become a Petroleum engineer. They get 3 week of field work and then 3 week vacation.

Unfortunately bioengineering and mechanical is normally office/lab work.

What would the next best career for field work be after PE? Because I feel PE isn’t looking too good into the future…
