Not sure where to apply

I'm a junior right now and I'm having trouble deciding what schools i want to apply to. I really am striving for USC but i need a few more reach/match schools as well as some safeties.

my academic GPA right now (9-12) is 3.93 UW and i take a pretty strong course load. Outside of 2 B's (one from 1st semester algebra 3/4 w/ trig and the other 1st semester english 3 honors) I've gotten all A's. I have a bunch of EC's and as for SAT/ACT, i just took the ACT and got a 30, and i am shooting for 2000+ on the SAT. I'm Undecided on what i want to do, but I am leaning towards a major in business.

I have a couple ideas for safety schools in LMU and Santa Clara, but i still need at least one more safety and a couple reach/match schools.

I don't mind what kind of social life the schools have, but I prefer those with more active ones. I would really appreciate some recommendations, or even just general advice. Thanks.

Are you looking for California only schools?

Are you going to apply to any UCs, Cal Polys, or Cal States?

What is your likely major and career choice?

Is money no object? Have your parents said that they’ll pay $55k per year for you to attend any of your schools?

You have a pretty strong profile, so that never hurts :).

Well. For me personally, figuring out what I wanted to major in (or even having some sort of idea) helped me narrow down my search a LOT. If you’re really undecided perhaps you could try and figure out if you’re into the humanities, sciences, mathematics… some general subject.

As far as business goes, a school that often gets overlooked (which i’m going to try to sell, pun intended) is Babson College in MA, which has one of the strongest, if not THE undergraduate business program in the country. Olin (great engineering school) and Wellesley (all women’s college) are nearby so there are definitely other colleges/social options in the area. So that was an oddly specific suggestion and I’m not really sure if it will help that much.

Besides active social life, do you have any other criteria? Location, size, ‘feel’ of the student body? Basically… anything else to make your question this less vague? lol.

Oops… I missed the mention of majoring in business…but I still wonder about my other questions. :)

I’m really shooting for staying in California, and I’d love to apply to some UC’s but for the major I think ill be taking (Business) I’m not sure which of them would be best.

Fortunately for me, money isn’t really an issue, it’s more of a, do i have the grades and does the college fit me, issue.

sorry about the vagueness on the social life thing haha. I dont know, i think a city environment would be best, and i guess a good dorm life. I’m not saying like partying every weekend, but a good balance between having fun and studying/quiet time.

Well… I’m kind of obsessed with the Claremont Colleges. If i lived in California I would definitely have applied to Claremont McKenna college, I think Pomona might work as well. That’s really all I have to offer in terms of CA institutions that aren’t the UC’s and Stanford.

Do you prefer schools with sports programs to watch (like USC)? Is that one of your attractions to USC?

Claremont McKenna is the best academically for business among the Claremont Colleges. UCSB is a decent safety that I hear is pretty decent for business. CMC would be a Low Reach I’d think.

Since you’re “striving for USC,” do you want your safeties to be USC-like? Kind of preppy, spirited with sports, fun, academically-strong school?
