I do think it matters what you major in, and it matters how much funding you have too. If you can’t afford to blow through whatever aid you qualify for and you don’t have much of an idea what you really want to do with your life, you’re better off taking some time off of school and figuring it out. A leave of absence doesn’t have to turn into a decade long break. You can’t always get funding, so it’s important to have some idea of what you’re doing unless you can afford to be full pay. Have you talked to anyone at the college to see if a gap year is possible for you?

I don’t really have any advice to give you, but I will say I totally understand where you are coming from. I changed my major from music to Education after my junior year. It took me 5 years (and some summers) to graduate, but I did, and went on to teach school for 3 years. I did not enjoy teaching! I finally found my direction when I was 29. I went back to school to get a BSN and became a RN, which I have loved for the most part.

Some of us take longer than others to figure out what we really want out of life. Good luck to you as you continue on this journey!
