Not taking any math or science tests?

I'm definitely not planning on majoring in anything math or science related, so would it hurt my chances if I only took, say, Literature and US History? All of the schools I want to apply to just require any two subject tests.

Also, two other questions:
Would it look bad if I took both the USH subject test and the APUSH exam?
If a college requires only two, would it make a difference if I took three instead?

If you wouldn’t do as well on math/science subject tests, then don’t take them. Take the subjects tests in areas in which you’d get the highest scores… it’s not good to have high literature and US history scores, for example, and then a low score in chemistry. Subject tests = not the time to ‘broaden’ your application by taking tests in areas outside your strengths.

I’m just like you… math and science have always been my weaknesses and I’m planning on majoring in either history, English, or Spanish in college. I’m taking the literature, US history, and Spanish SAT II’s.

If you can do really well on three subject tests, then take three. It’s better to do really well on two than to do well on two and relatively poorly on a third, however.

Just play to your strengths.

And no, it’s fine to take both the AP and subject test in US history… I’m doing the same thing and thousands of other high schoolers are too.

If the colleges that you plan on applying to do not specify which Subject Tests to submit, then any SAT Subject Tests will do.
