Hey there. I completed Precalculus Honors last year as a sophomore. My school doesn't offer AP Calculus, but I live in Florida so I could take it through FLVS for free. I'm hesitant to start in November, though, because I wouldn't have a physical teacher and I'm afraid that I won't perform as well in the class. However, my guidance counselor informed me that AP statistics is regarded as academically "lower" than AP Calc and encouraged me to take Calc AB. Will it be detrimental to my transcript to have taken AP stats over Calc AB?

Since your high school doesn’t offer calc, I doubt any colleges would hold not taking it against you. Is taking it at a nearby community college an option? It would cost more than FLVS, but you’d have a physical teacher.

Are you going to be a math or science major? If not, don’t worry about AP Calc. My d took standard calc, even though her school offered both AP AB and AP BC. Her admissions results were still good. (Caveat: she applied to top schools, but not to Ivies.)
