i'm going to be a senior next year and i am taking 4 AP classes: enviro, stat, english, and econ/gov. i hadn't really thought about what tests i was going to take from those 4. i took the spanish one this year and i told myself i wasn't going to take anymore AP tests that i didn't feel adequately prepared for. anyways, since i will be a senior and will hopefully be accepted into a college... would not taking the AP tests REALLY affect my academic career?

here is the deal. i was planning on going on a missions trip to tanzania the two weeks after the AP test weeks. however, they just pushed the trip back so it happens to be the same two weeks as the AP test dates (first two weeks in May). obviously school is very important and should come first but this is an opportunity i may not have for awhile. do you think if i talked to collegeboard they would let me retake 1 or 2 tests on the make up week? again its not a vacation. we are going to tanzania to set up health care clinics. would colleges care??

Sounds like an interesting experience, but it could mean you don’t take any AP tests and have to re-take the same classes in college. I assume you already could not make the AP make-up dates? Some might like to re-take an AP class in college as they’ll have already seen the material before and can understand it more deeply or perhaps can get a good grade to help their college GPA, but others may get lazy and skip a class or two and then end up with a B or lower in the class. If you are financially well off, maybe skipping the AP exams is a reasonable option; if you are not well off, then paying for a class that you could have gotten for the price of an AP test does not make sense at all. I don’t know what kind of school you are trying to get into, but if you are playing a leadership role in this mission (versus a participant) this mission may be interesting on a college app, otherwise, it is just a good experience. I would save the mission work for when you can play a leadership role AND it matches up to your college coursework. You can save the world a few weeks later, or a few years later.

you are allowed to take as many make-up tests as you want as long as you pay up the 40 something dollars. I’d go on the missionary trip; sounds like a much better experience for life than 4 AP tests.

If you are really determined to go on that nice trip, then go ahead I would make up the AP tests that you will get credit for in your college. Worst situation is that they will make you pay $40 for each make-up test.
