Not Taking IB Courses?

Hi, I was wondering if not taking IB at a school that offers it reflects poorly on your application? I've still taken all honors and AP classes. Thanks.

bump 10 char

It depends. If you are talking a full load of AP classes and Honors classes, then you will be fine. However, adding a few IB classes would still look kinda nice. You need to take the hardest classes you can, and if that means taking IB courses, then go for it!

Thanks alot for the reply. Does this schedule look rigorous enough?

9th grade-
Pre-AP Geometry
Pre-AP Accelerated Science I (1 yr of biology + 1/2 year of chemistry)
Pre-AP English I
Pre-AP Geography
Spanish II (no honor class at this level)
Band
Buisness & Multimedia (needed for tech credit)

10th grade
Pre-AP Algebra II
Pre-AP Accelerated Science II (1/2 yr of chemistry + 1 yr physics)
Pre-AP English II
Pre-AP Spanish III
Pre-AP World History
Band
Debate

11th grade
Pre-AP Precalculus
Honors Anatomy
AP/TAG English 4
AP Spanish IV
AP/IB US History
Band
Debate

12th grade
AP Calculus
AP Biology
AP/TAG English V
AP/IB European History
AP Econ/AP Government
Health/Speech
Band
Debate

Would this qualify as "most rigorous"?
I plan to major in International Relations or Government/PoliSci

Yeah, it looks good enough. Even though band, speech/health, and Debate are not Hon or AP, they show commitment, or at leats band and Debate do. Is the Health class required? If it is, take it. If it is not, I would add another AP class. I mean, speech is helpful, but I think Debate will help your speech. Kill two birds with one stone.

Yea, my high school requires speech and health credits for graduation, and these classes are the only way to get them. Interestingly enough, the debate class doesn't qualify for the speech credit. So would this qualify as "most rigorous", or should I try to take the speech/health courses in a community college over summer and take another AP class during the school year?

If you are up to the challenge of taking it over the summer, than yes. I think it would look very impressive. If you don't do that, I think your schedule will still be considered "most rigorous", because you cannot elude requirements to graduate.

Ask your guidance counselor whether that schedule would be considered to be the most rigorous offered by your school. It is up to the school to determine that. Generally, schools will view the AP track and IB track to be equally rigorous, but only your school can tell you what they say about it.
