Not taking the AP exam, will it hurt me?

So I am in AP Comp Sci, my school is a very competitive vo-tech school. We have majors. As a freshmen I chose the Computer Science major since it was the closest to engineering in my school. I took web-design and computer programming both of which I passed with flying colors. Junior year comes around and we have to take AP Comp Sci. I knew that I was an “iffy” on that course so I went to class the first day of school and decided that I am going to switch into a different class. I told my guidance counselor that I do not like that class and I will not do well if I don’t transfer out (if I am forced to do something, I put a lot of effort in, but I don’t do well). So, she said that the system is not set up and come a week or two later. I went a week and a half later when the system was “officially” running and told her if I can switch out. She said “you can’t switch out because it is too late and we are already in October and also, the principal won’t approve of it.” So basically, i was forced into that class. I try my best to learn but i can’t and my teacher barely helps, and i absolutely dislike 90% of the kids in my class. I know i am gonna do horrid on the AP exam so, i just wanted to know, what happens if i do not take the AP Comp Sci exam. I am taking APUSH as well, and I am planning on taking that exam. So yeah, please answer.

From what I have understood, it is better if you take these AP exams in order to show the admission officers your skills in a subject, where it could make up for a low score on the ACT/SAT I. It could also give you more options from the SAT II (subject tests) to show your skills to the admission officers.
The admission officers might not appreciate seeing that you have decided to taken all your AP tests beforehand but decide to skip one test. For them, it might seem as a sign of you getting lazy. The fact that you’re just choosing to not take test might make it seem as if you are being lazy or are, in fact, not sending all your scores to the college.
This is what I think. I think that you should just take the test in case your other scores might not be as strong. Also, since you’re applying for Engineering, it might be a way to show off your strength (be sure to dominate on the math and science tests as well). It’s still too early in the year for you to know if you will pass the test or not. If you study and work hard, you might just pass the test.

But everything starts with a change! So change today and dominate that test!

It is all fine. AP score has little impact on admission. If you think you may not get a good score in the AP exam, you’d better save that money.

Unless your high school specifically requires that you take the exam, it is perfectly fine to skip it. Lots of people don’t take the exams for any number of reasons. No one will ever care.

Agree with happymomof1. Unless you are required to take the exam, give it a miss. Schools don’t require you to report AP scores - it’s self-reported.

AP scores are more for you to get credit for a class in college. You don’t have to take them and as a senior, it is irrelevant to getting into college. What isn’t irrelevant is your grades in that class. You need to keep up your grades.
