Hi everyone!
I got back the results of my first attempt at the ssat.
Verbal: 746, 86%
Quantitative: 791, 93%
Reading: 713, 84%
Focus will be on Latin, Russian, Philosophy, and Math. By the time I (hopefully) arrive at boarding school I will have my associate for Philosophy. A coding colleague/mentor will probably be writing my ec recommendation.
GPA:
6th: 4.0
7th: 3.6
8th: 4.0
What do you think?
Your scores and grades are absolutely fine and will neither get you in nor prevent you from getting in. They are in line with accepted applicants to these schools. Focus on what else you will be adding to the community and what makes you unique.
While it’s great to take interest in Latin, Russian, Philosophy and Math, within your application, I would advise you to avoid limiting yourself to those subjects. Top schools look for either well rounded applicants who are already exploring a wide variety of subjects or students who are laser focused and nationally recognized in a specific area. Unless you have an extensive list of achievements in the interests above, they lack a clear relation to one another and may seem random to an admissions committee. Also, it is a bit premature to start thinking about potential focuses as you haven’t even started high school. Take this summer to organize your interests and EC activities. This will help you establish yourself as a more cohesive applicant.
In terms of GPA, I would recommend addressing the dip in 7th grade during your interview. I had a similar grade trend but was able to make it a positive by describing personal growth in my organization and study skills.
Your SSAT scores are in range. It might be worth retaking but it’s not necessary.
Hope I was able to help! If you have any additional questions feel free to DM me. Goodluck!
Your SSAT are fine but what was your overrall? I suggest to practice for your interview and write a good essay. I am applying for Hotchkiss my freshmen year!
