hey guys, i am wondering about my chances for admission. i know my stats arent the best, but i have good connections, im wondering if this could get me in. my aunt and uncle were, along with their son, big supporters of ND. They lived in South Bend and were very involved in organizations with the university, although they didnt attend, and donated quite a lot of money. In addition, a family attorney who is a ND grad will write me an excellent letter of rec. im just wondering if you think that this could help me get into ND with the following stats:

Jewish Male
ACT - 28
GPA - 3.4

Involvement:
DECA - prestigous marketing club, our school consistantly ranks top 10 nationally
Yearbook Editor
Internship with Obama campaign, very good experience
Part time job since last summer

so, please tell me, should i save myself some money and the time of our family friend, or could I have a shot?

ND is tough on alumni kids. Unless your development connections are very, very strong and they are willing to really push it, the chances are not good.

I don't know if I would totally dismiss applying, esp RD. No, you do not have the alum hook but if you present your app with a strong essay, you may have a shot. Is it a school that you want to attend? Can you picture yourself at ND? That may be the bigger question in evaluating whether it is worth the time and money. Son applied to a couple of schools when he was going thru the process that were indeed long-shots (and I'm not so sure that they were good fits as much as they were long-shots!) In today's economic world, you never know what ND is looking for either, in terms of filling next year's class. Look at the big picture before totalling dismissing application. Good Luck!
