So I was thinking that, given that my main college choices are either kind of expensive (UNC OOS) or lackluster (Binghamton, at least as far as their campus goes), I was thinking that I might have wanted to apply to UD. I went to their website and saw that you can actually still apply, and be considered based on the amount of space they have available.

I was wondering if I would still have any decent chance of getting in if I applied this late? Also, if they didn't give me a decision until after May 1, but I did get in, would I be able to withdraw from the school where I agreed to matriculate? I know if you're taken off a waitlist they'll let you do that, but I don't know if it applies simply being accepted somewhere new.

Also, is there any chance I would still be considered for scholarships by UD?

Something has to be wrong if your daughter applied and has not heard back.
They've already started having decision days.....and the deposit is due by May 1st. I would call the school ASAP if she is still interested.

Yep, decision days are over and still no answer. No answer to our several emails either. I did call, and they said the letter was mailed a few days ago. No apologies for the late reply.

So esquivalience, if you got into UNC OOS, I would think you could still get into UDel--but you might want to call and ask how long the process would take. Try to talk to a real admissions officer, not the student who answers to phone.

Oh, and I just got my decision, and they gave me plenty of money. You might get some too! I should think we're about the same since I got into UVa OOS.

Meesh, congrats on getting in (and the award)!

I got so involved in the Bing vs. UNC decision that I kind of put Delaware on the back-burner, but a few days ago I found out that I wouldn't even be able to get a big enough loan to go to UNC (I have no credit history and my parents don't want to co-sign a large loan), so I had to deposit at Bing. However, I don't really want to go to Bing all that much, so I just sent in my Delaware application. I called them a few days ago and they said decisions usually come within a week at this time of year, so hopefully I'll find out soon enough.

Meesh.. who's Louis Hirsch? (What do you mean he can make things happen?) Since I already applied, should I still give him a call? And just out of curiosity, how long did it take Delaware to make a decision after they got your application?

Lou is a great guy. I was in a similar situation. I wanted to leave high school a year early, and I applied to UD in the middle of May. Lou was very helpful throughout the process, and I got my acceptance in late June/early July. I have continued into a graduate program at UD as well. PM me if you need any more info.

He's the director of admissions, or something like that.
My problem was that I'd submitted my application really early, like, around November, but they didn't look at it (no lie) until the middle of April. They still managed to work something good out for me. THe same thing happened to my friend, so hopefully there's something they could work out for you. It's even more compelling if you are an excellent student, which I'm sure you are.
