Not too sure

I just got my first acceptance to columbia college chicago. i’m still waiting for seven more final decisions fyi non of the ivy leagues or UCs. i was happy at first and then i saw so many bad reviews about this school one in particular saying after graduating, she was laughed at every job interview when they saw this college on the resume and it’s making me a little confused and really doubt my college list

Where else did you apply and what would be your first choice? You must have liked Columbia College for some reason.

ummm i also applied to Lewis and Clark College (the four year), CUNY City College, University of San Diego, George Fox University, Sonoma State University, Seattle University, and Concordia University Irvine. I applied because I liked the theatre program (especially it not having an initial audition to ease my stress), but i’m just not sure if i sold myself short with my college list because of my unweighted GPA (3.4), my ACT score (19), and my request for non audition theatre. i’m also doubtful about columbia because it doesn’t have sports and I wanted to play some sports in college.

It would be odd to go to Columbia College unless you are from the Chicago area.

“especially it not having an initial audition to ease my stress”

I think that’s an issue there. First, if you’re interested in theatre, aren’t auditions just a normal aspect of your life? Unless you’re not going in to act but maybe to direct? Then why would they have auditions?

Also, I think any decent college would have some degree of entry criteria for a specific program. If a theatre program doesn’t have any auditions, maybe it’s intended to attract “bad” actors who won’t be able to do much with their degree? Not to be insulting, but it may be kind of a scam. If you want a career in theatre, you should try to get the best training you can and aim as high as possible.

Just my opinion though. I hope you get equally good nows from the other schools!

I actually know a theater major at Columbia College Chicago! You can’t beat the location. Chicago is a great city for acting, especially improv. All of the best improv actors I know started to get their footing in the windy city.

All of your concerns are valid, and I’m glad that you’re looking into the good and the bad of the schools you applied to. There is not a single school on this earth that is 100% for any student. There will always be something that you don’t like or are neutral to.

@CheddarcheeseMN Princeton Review says that 40% of students that have enrolled are OOS (including the theater major that I know.) I don’t really think it’d be odd to go there then, at least not as odd as a “low level” SUNY.

have checked whether it is an accredited school? maybe its for-profit and that’s why its not worth it.
