Not Top 10%... Am I Screwed??

So my UC gpa is going to be 4.23 and I guestimate my SAT will max at around 2100 but I am only top 16%. I looked at some admissions stats and it said that 99% of undergrads were in the top 10% of their class... so now I'm thinking I'm screwed for UCSD...

I don't think you're screwed since your guesstimated SAT score and GPA are pretty solid. But it might be a close call...I'm not sure.

No, UCSD doesn't care about class rank. Your estimated SAT and GPA are above average for UCSD! Your school must have some serious grade inflation.

you're freaking out for no reason. im in the top 30% and got in. (for the winter) And my GPA and SATs are wayy below yours. 3.96,1890. hahah yes I'm one of those ones that are dragging the average GPA and SAT down..

One little detail wont blow your chances of getting in UCSD. They dont factor class rank into admissions. Look around in this forum for the link to a page with UCSD admissions point system.

there are also quite a few schools who don't make a habit of ranking their students. mine was one of them.

Whew! What a relief, thanks everyone who replied.

I wasn't in top 10% either.

Top 10% is for top private schools. Other private schools do take up to top 50% because there are so many colleges outside of top private schools.
UCs do not care about rank. Here is a link to see if you qualify for UCSD. In the past, if you get 7500+, you get admitted to UCSD.

UCSD Freshman Comprehensive Review Process (Dec 2004)

I wasn't top 10% (4.0 UC GPA, screwed up freshman year), and I still got into UCSD Computer Engineering... :D I'm sure you're safe.

let's think back: did we even have to state our class rank on the UC App? No. I don't think they take into consideration class rank

Yeah just chill mate, I believe you're way more qualified than I am and I got in with a 3.4gpa weighted and 1720 SAT with a class rank of like 16-17% =P

i was class rank 6% with 3.96 uc gpa and 1870 sat scores and i got into bioengineering:premed major for fall at revelle

You don't state your rank in Common Ap either but private schools know whether you're in top 10% because they get the school report from the counselor.

many high school transcripts also have room for class rank on them

Yeah my class rank is shown on my high school transcript thats why I was so concerned :P

^For UCs, you self report your grades. They don't see your transcript until you actually decide to enroll there. You submit your transcript later. So back to your original question, UCs don't care about top 10%.
