NOT Wharton

Odd question, but since I am hearing only praise about wharton I was wondering what are the negative aspects of studying at Wharton.

In order to have a balanced perspective when choosing the right uni for me I would like anybody to write reasons why I should NOT choose wharton.

I am interested in a career in the field of business and economics.

My dilemma is mainly: Wharton vs. Economics major in other great universities/colleges

I’m interested in any insights, ex. career prospects, life quality during or after studies, whatever,…

Thanks a lot

Wharton will give you the best career prospects, and by going to Wharton, you may not need to go back for an MBA. However, most people would not advise going into business (my dad even advised me not to go into engineering for the same reason) because it limits you too early in the game, and the best part of undergrad is the broad education you can get at a place like Penn. At Wharton you can still double major/minor in your areas of interest. I would only study at Wharton if you want to major in business, and if business is your passion. Econ and Accounting/finance/marketing are very different things. An econ degree from Penn does not carry the same weight as a Wharton degree, but it is still a solid econ degree from a very top notch school.

I did some research on this before I applied to Wharton. From what I've been told, an econ degree focuses much more on general economic practice and would be better for a government job, and has less application in general to say, a job on Wall Street. Wharton would focus much more on specific business theory and application in fields like Marketing, Finance, etc.

If you wanna go into business go to Wharton. If you wanna foucs on theories do econ

Crap lol. I was planning on double majoring in Business/Economics at Wharton :o but if that essentially does nothing for me, I don't know anymore...

Wonder if I can double CONCENTRATE? :-/ I think I definitely want to double in SOMETHING argh lol.

Yes, you can do a double concentration at Wharton. It just takes up your three elective spots I believe.

That's nice. I hope we have an academic counselor to talk with online before the school year starts so we can get an idea of how we can schedule our classes and stuff lol.

Look at this page:

http://undergrad.wharton.upenn.edu/classof2011/advantage.html

They try to show some of the differences between Wharton vs. being an econ major at another Ivy. To me, it's like the difference between being a physics major and studying the trajectory of a pitched baseball and going to baseball camp where they actually teach you how to throw pitches.

A reason not to attend: Everyone seems to complain about the food.

um... we happen to be in philadelphia. a city. full of food. no worries.

people on 100% fin aid may have to get the meal plan every year, and probably do not have the cash to buy take out every meal.

What about.. a triple concentration @ Wharton? BPUB/Mgmt/Finance.

what about having a life

What about.... having a soul?

Souls are overrated

Why the hell was this thread titled NOT Wharton when it was about nothing at penn BUT wharton?

I am filled with rage--soon to be drunken rage

meaning why would u NOT choose wharton
