Not your average "How to rank the colleges" thread

Okay, so basically I know all about the GE requirements for all six colleges and everything, and I'm in the process of ranking the them.
So far, it looks like: Revelle, Roosevelt, Warren, Sixth, Muir, Marshall.
I really like the writing courses for both Revelle and Roosevelt, and those are therefore my top two choices. ...here's where it gets complicated.
I want to be in Revelle a lot more than Roosevelt (a lot more), and I feel like if I put Roosevelt second, they will be like "Finally, someone who didn't put Roosevelt last. He's in!"
So I'm considering putting Roosevelt last to improve my chances of getting Revelle. However, I want to be in Roosevelt a lot more than any of the other four, and therefore don't want to risk getting Warren or Sixth and wishing I had kept Roosevelt second.

I'm not sure if this made any sense... but hopefully someone can help me! Thanks

The higher your scores and grades, the higher your chances are of getting the college you want.

FWIW, Muir gets the most applications, has the highest GPA and Muir graduates get the most awards at graduation.

trust me u dont want to be in revelle. it definitely is the ****tiest college ever. u will definitely not be able to graduate in 4 years. and ull be taking more ECs than every other college. trust me dont choose revelle!

Revelle- Just as difficult GEs as ERC, but with ****tier dorms.

Yeah, have fun mate.

^ seriously dont listen to those people. I put Revelle first because thats the college that I wanted. I still wouldnt change my decision and I love Revelle. Some people just love to hate. The only thing I didnt used to like about it is that I felt like I always had to defend myself, but whatever, I learned a long time ago to just let those people say what they want.

Just put Roosevelt second if thats the way you feel too. I think Revelles hum series is more interesting than mmw (albiet probably less “practical”). And the dorms are nOT bad at all.

^Relax, mate. ERC gets more than enough hate as well. I was giving my opinion, thats all. Your dorms suck, face it. And ERC has the best ones on campus. I suppose the GE thing is subjective, however.

No, actually, our dorms dont suck. I didnt have a single problem my frosh year. The setup is great for socializing, you dont always hear whats going on around you, food is always like 100 steps away, and the library is 200 steps in the other direction. The Fleets, on the other hand, arent that great, but mostly thats for overflow students from other colleges or Revelle kids who dont turn in their housing application early/on time. And no longer will 2nd years have to go live down in warren since theyve just added a new huge 2nd years housing building.

You will get into Revelle and you will be happy. Though avoided by some due to fear and misinformation we are glad, relieved even, that we chose Revelle. Do they ever force students into Revelle who put it low on the list? That’s why I think it’s a safe bet as a first choice.

Haha very mixed reviews. Blue, how is the HUM series less practical?

Revelle dorms look like Compton projects.

If you really want to be in ERC after Revelle, I recommend putting Muir 2nd and ERC 3rd. After asking around, I believe ONLY those who rank Muir 1st on their application get into it since it’s the most popular one.

It does help a little if you tell us your scores + grades because the higher they are the more likely you will get put into your first pick.

Revelle dorms look like mental asylums from the inside. I visited a friend there and it was creepy as hell. D: I’m told the food is nasty, though to be fair that’s true of ERC as well.

Thats strange that you have ERC/revelle ranked higher than the rest since they’re known to have the most GEs. It’s usually Muir first with Warren a close 2nd (although Warren is better for people double majoring/minor because of PofC). But i guess its a good thing people are preferring Revelle/ERC

So I am definitely considering double majoring, and didn’t take that into consideration. Now my list looks like… Muir, Warren, Sixth, Revelle, Marshall, Roosevelt
Do you think that with a 4.09 UC GPA and a 31 ACT, I have a good shot at getting one of my first three listed (or even getting into UCSD at all!) Should I retake the ACT?

P.S. I acknowledge the ludicrously drastic subject change.

you have a good shot.

Miniature, do you mean of getting into UCSD or into the college I want?

Also, are you allowed take the writing sequence for another college? If so, would that count towards your writing requirement if it’s longer (ie. in Muir and take MMW)

Sorry if these are dumb questions!

no, you cannot take writing courses of another college

Remember, getting into a certain college makes no difference for whether you get rejected or not.

@JeSuis I meant getting into the college you want. Most people that I’ve talked to that are in Revelle either because they randomly ranked it first or thought that it would be better for them as premeds (which really doesn’t). It seems that it is rather easy to be placed into your first pick with the exception of Muir.

Oh okay, thanks. So do my chances look good that I will get into UC San Diego in general? I have decent leadership and 200+ hours of community service (but no ELC).

Also, should I rank Warren first if I’m considering a double major? It seems the most geared towards that, but I’m not sure if Muir would be even better.
