The reasons I am considering a transfer include the cost of traveling to and from my school on breaks, and because I have to travel home for orthodontist appointments since no orthos in the area do invisalign, also the lack of school spirit/major athletics at my schools (i would say 60-75% of the college apparel at my school has the name of another school on it), I can't stand the freezing cold, or the rain. The town and gown relations that were already bad are getting even worse and there is now even a comission to ban students from living in the residential neighborhoods, giving us the off campus choices of renting overpriced appartments in one complex that is built and one complex being built that are owned by the same dveloper (this will not affect me for about a year and a half since you can't move off campus until junior year). The major reason I picked this school is because I was a major slacker in high school who wanted to turn it around and this school had a reputation of being more academic, but it isn't. Seeing as I've learned how to get my work done and still have a good time because many of the people here have the attitude toward academics that I tried to avoid at my state u I see no point in not going to my state u.
I also wouldn't mind staying however because I like the friends I have made, the classes aren't terribly challenging and the school is a bargain (my state U is only $5,000 cheaper) and my major at this school is ranked much higher than it is at my state u even though my state u has graduate schools in the field I want to pursue, where as my current school doesnt.

forgot my purpose in posting this rant. Does this sound like a legitimate reason to consider transferring? If so I have it down to about three schools I’m going to try to transfer to, my state U another State public and then a private that I wanted to go but was waitlisted at (my interest in that school is b/c of their financial aid policy of giving only grants after $2,500 in loans)

nvm doublepost

All of those things you listed are pretty typical reasons why people transfer. But when you write your essay about why you are transferring you should focus on what the new school offers, not what you hate about your current school.

thank you i guess maybe they aren’t stupid reasons to consider a switch
anyone else have an opinion?

Go to the school where you will be happier? If it means saving another $5,000 per year, that’s icing on the cake. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Actually sounds very typical to me.

thanks for the help i guess we’ll see hopefully the school I’m hoping to transfer to doesn’t hold it against me that i put down a deposit in may and then unenrolled to go to my current school.
