Not your usual chinaman... (except for the eyes o/c :D)

All merit finalists are automatically accepted given you make the criteria just to receive the application for admittance, which you obviously do.

Jeez, lighten up a little, folks. Plus, there’s a general rule of thumb that people are entitled to poke fun at their own race…:)

Yea, I am not meaning to insult anyone/offend anyone with anything I said… just having some fun.

And George, that personal information is VERY relevant when it comes to college admissions, especially scholarships, and affirmative action.

ok beyond everything else…
what do you think makes you different? (according to title)
you’ve got good stats and everything, but what else?

I would guess it’s different in a sort of bad way. Most asians are heavily involved in the math and computing- i.e. many awards for math on a regional or state level, while I don’t have a single one (And to be honest, don’t have much interest for math in general)…

And to be honest, my favorite (and only) sport is weightlifting. Not a very common one… and I’m a lot more lopsided on the community service vs. academic awards than most of my asian friends.

i can’t imagine you not getting in at davidson. most top schools in the south don’t seem to get as many asian applicants so i think you should worry too much about your aa status. you should try duke, uva, vanderbilt, washington and lee and new college (safety).

Yeah I’ve been thinking. My ideal application should be toward a college that is around rank 15-20, in the South… because then I would have a good chance of getting in, a decent chance of scholarships, and reverse Affirmative Action wouldn’t hurt me so much (Because face it, in top northern schools it’s VERY hard for asian males to get in, because there are already so many.)

B…b…u…mp. Trying to start my college essays, but kind of lost… aaah.

y davidson? y not unc georgia tech duke emory or vanderbilt? they’re like the best colleges in the southeast. i mention this b/c part of app is y u r applying not just who u r as student/athlete/club president.

for essays think abou tyour fit for each school. College don’t always accept ppl who are super smart but won’t contribute anything to the campus’ diversity, ideas, and reputation.

Duke- Don’t think I can get accepted… or have enough cash to pay for it, on the off chance that I am accepted.

Emory and Vanderbilt- Have looked at them… I don’t know… fairly decent options. Heard they aren’t really keen on giving out money though.

Georgia-Tech… they are known for their engineering program. I’m not into engineering. Scratch that.

Well, I toured Davidson, and honestly, it’s a nice college that seems to fit me. Small, the honor code is AWESOME… nice rural environment, and pretty good academics too. A Presbyterian church on campus (They were affiliated not too long ago, not anymore though…)… a bunch of reasons. I need money though, if I can get into Davidson paying 10-15,000 a year, it would be a dream come true.

And I’m starting essays right now… believe me, I’ll at least contribute something to the campus. I’m not some kind of anti-social loner. I just don’t like ‘school clubs’ because I think 90% of them are fake, and joined just to pad up applications. So I do other ECs instead.

lol also, consider u of tampa and central florida. tampa sent me a thick brochure this year about its “many” programs. have u looked those schools up yet?

Well, I haven’t considered Tampa or UCF, because I am banking on the fact that I SHOULD get into UF, without a problem. I’m just not sure if I can get into their honors program…

If I don’t even get admitted to UF, I might as well just give up hope and find another calling in life besides medicine… but, I should get in. More interested in going out of state. I heard U. Miami has an interesting 6 year medical program, but it’s expensive and not very ambitious.

yea u of miami isnt that highly ranked either

do u no about u of south florida?

here, have some humble pie, apple/cherry flavored, before initiating your college essay. (i mean this in a humorous way ;)) Your academics are fine, your EC’s are quite impressive. round it off with a stellar essay.

LEMON

Haha, thanks man. I have all summer to work on essays, other than doing some service and taking maybe 1 short summer class. Let’s see what I can come up with.

aaahhh… also make sure to inject some of your own (humbled) personality into the essay. (a la window into who you really are as a person.) ;)

Bad Idea for an essay (from what i’ve read, heard): listing every single goddamn achievement you have gained in this Planet Earth… :stuck_out_tongue: heh heh heh… :stuck_out_tongue: lol.

SOUR LEMON

Don’t worry, I’ve read the list on what not do on college essays… I’m just having ginormous writer’s block right now, can’t think of anything creative. :(

Ivy maybe hard, but you could try to appl colleges better than you listed. If you like small schools, LAC is another choice, a lot of girls are there, haha

you need be packaged well. find some help:)
