notable recs???????

are you sure? what if it's impersonal? the bushes ARE andover.

how well does he know actually? idk thats prolly all that matters. but go for, i dont think itll hurt.

u know, if it's really as big a figure to andover as in the mars or fords family to hotchkiss or forbe's to milton, or something like that, the schools would never risk ****ing them off...u realize prep schools, specially the prestigious ones always look for ways to expand their endownment, keep their funding up, and no way in hell you want someone who donate so much money or such big names to feel turned off and disrespected by the school

But this isn't a member of the Bush family that is applying; just the grandson of a business contact. I don't think Mr. Bush will lose any sleep if our friend here is rejected, no offense.

I'm against it; it comes across as blatant name-dropping. He doesn't know you personally and doesn't have anything to add to your application.

If you truly deserved the benefits of the enormous pull generated by Mr. Bush you wouldn't have to ask about it--he'd probably offer himself. And to clarify: the statement "the Bushes ARE Andover" is a little presumptuous...

Thank you xGods for being more straight forward about what I was trying to say.

I wouldn't go as far as to think Mr. Bush would think to offer Blairt a rec to Andover as he may not keep up with ALL of Blairt's interests, but if the ex-president is familiar with Blairt as a person, I'm sure a small note from grandfather letting him know that Blairt is applying would be enough to illicit a recommendation.

I don't think it would be right for grandpa to ask his old business partner for a blind recommendation, nor do I think Mr. Bush would give a blind recommendation - "wouldn't be prudent". He is that kind of person and understands that recommendations are not given out like candy. You spend such capital on people you personally know to be qualified, as a bad recommendation can hurt any future person needing such a favor.

Mr. Bush wont know..he thinks there's February 30th (see his speech, "these are the actual numbers for the fiscal year that ended february 30th")
he also believes that "human and fish can coexist"

he also knows how to use "sayings" that he doesnt remember correctly
"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again." -it's supposed to be "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me"

such a dumb fool would have no idea or concept of the importance of recommendations

Agreed, goaliedad, very nicely put.

Bearcats, that was his son, George W. Bush. I not not like of either of them or their political legacies, but H.W. is a pretty intelligent man; W., in my opinion, is not, at all. But at least he thinks the "illiteracy level of our children are appalling."
