I self-studied for the AP Calculus exam, and I just wondered if they required a specific notation for, say, listing the domain and range (or anything else, if you're aware of it). I know that certain teachers will prefer certain notations, but is that just a personal preference or is that due to certain requirements?

I think that if you get your point across, the grader will give you the points that you have earned. The AP tests were not made so that you would need some particular book to prepare from. Collegeboard understands that different sources provide different notations and styles. As long as your notation is clear, you’re set.

remember to round to 3 decimal places… very important

It’s best to go to four decimal places because you will be right either way. With only 3 decimal places you can be wrong due to rounding.

You can use whichever notation you prefer. You can use words or symbols.

“On the open interval -4 to 3” or “(-4,3)” are both acceptable answers.
