I was wondering how classes were going to work with a Thursday game, so now I know. While I’m glad that classes are canceled for game day, I am not happy with UA taking a day off of fall break. I was planning on fly home for the weekend since I’d rather be at school for the Iron Bowl (Auburn Game) over Thanksgiving.*

Some professors may be nice and refrain form scheduling tests or quizzes on the Thursday that was originally part of Fall Break, making it easier to go home for a longer weekend.

my dd was planning to come home for fall break and maybe just stay at school for thanksgiving and the auburn game since school ends so soon after that.

I’m sure DS will not be coming home for Thanksgiving, I imagine quite a few will be staying with the Auburn game. Have to see what, if anything, this change does to things.

Depending on how many Friday classes your child has, it might be worthwhile to skip the GA State game and the following day and go home for an early Thanksgiving. Airfares are cheaper and you don’t have to miss the Iron Bowl. While I don’t think there will be a UA shuttle, a small group of people can split a limo or shuttle for a very reasonable cost.

well AL34 lets load your son in the car too!! i would love to have mike’s D and your S for T’day. My son can easily go over to Tuscaloosa from B’ham and drive them here.

Not fretting. They will be home plenty long for Christmas and that long spring break when they’re shut out of the dorms.

Why was the game moved from Saturday to Thursday?

And I’m surprised to hear that so many are expected to attend the Georgia State game.

I thought this was going to be the blowout that would be easy to get tickets for.

Son got the Auburn package, so I don’t think he has tickets for the Georgia game.

And if I understand correctly, instead of a four day weekend for fall break, they’ll get a three day weekend. Is that correct?

What time will the Georgia game be? Worst come to worse, those with Friday classes will be a little tired the next day if the game is that night.

The game was moved to Thursday so that the Tide would have a full week to practice for the Iron Bowl and also because the last 6 SEC opponents each have a bye week before playing UA. I’m expecting this to be a night game, but I think we’d get similar attendance if it was a day game (this might be this season’s Pay-Per-View game). People would still be taking a day off work/school.

You are correct that what was a 4 day weekend for Fall Break is now a 3 day weekend. I’m sure many people will be tired the Friday after the GA State game.

Montegut: If your son wants tickets to that Georgia State game, well, just tell him to put his name on the waiting list. Gotta a feeling that he stands a good chance of getting them. My son got tickets to the UT-Chattanooga game without any problem last November.

I also suspect that there will be some professors who will cancel classes on that Friday, because they figure only a handful of kids may come to class following a late-night football game. Of course, there will be a professor or two who probably will schedule a test or a paper due that day.

I’m thrilled that the Iron Bowl is during Thanksgiving break, makes it a guilt-free decision to not have DS fly home that close to the Christmas break.

I agree 100% AL34. The kids will be coming home in 3 weeks for semester break anyway.

The only thing I don’t like about it is it’s gonna be hard for me to make the game myself. I’m thinking of spending Thanksgiving here with the family and then flying out early Friday morning for the game. I can have a belated Thanksgiving with my son that night.

Agree as well. They’ll be home for a big break at Christmas. I too am undecided as to whether to head to T-Town for the holiday and/or game. I’m sure hotel rooms will be hard to find already, and I don’t know how we’d be able to get tickets to the game, anyway. Son has his ticket with his package, but what about the two for mom and dad?
