Be reasonable! Your kids aren't out to get you, and they sometimes can have rational thoughts.

Having a bad day??

Islandmom, sounds that way, doesn't it?

Encomium...it is ok to vent. Not sure why you are assuming whatever it is you are assuming to be ALL PARENTS.

Perhaps if an issue has arisen for you at home, you can share it and get perspectives here. To lecture ALL PARENTS about whatever it is that perturbs you with your parents at the moment is going a bit far.

But we can chalk it up to a bad day...hope it improves.

It's interesting how the kids come in here every so often to "vent" abut the situation in their homes. Some of them are comfortable and vocal enough to say "hi parents, here's what's going on in my home"....and others, like EncomiumII, toss something out randomly and expect us to ponder the meaning. If any of us thought our kids were "out to get us" would we really be here??? If I thought my son was out to get me, I'd buy a one way ticket to the Caribbean and let him figure out college (and financing it) on his own :)

momsdream, who would being using that one-way ticket, you or your son? LOL

College apps are very stressful for some families. What was the name of that set of brothers who hacked their parents to death several years ago? Mendez? I remember the mom was filling out college financial aid forms at the time. Boy, those were parents whose kids were "out to get them"!

Three guesses Concerneddad! There's a seagrape tree on the far right side of White Bay on Jost van Dyke, BVI that would serve as perfect shelter until I could find enough wood to build a hut and scout a good location for my honor bar...all CC parents welcome!

Oh goodie, sign me up!!

texas137-Their dad also raped them, so it's kinda different.

Hoo_29 - Yikes, I don't think I ever read that! I remember the story about the murders themselves, but then I didn't follow the defense at the trial.

O, I think it's messed up too, I just think that that makes it completely different from what we are going through. It's actually really disturbing.

Hoo_29 - I wasn't implying that the Mendez brothers were driven to murder by the admissions process. I was just making light of the "kids out to get you" imagery, and making the point that the admissions process can be a strain on families in addition to whatever else they have going on. (which in the Mendez case was apparently quite a bit)
