I’m gonna be a freshman in the fall, taking chem 101, bio 107, 1st sem chinese and writing 100. I’m just wondering which is best to use for class, notebooks or binders? Notebooks are less organized but easy to transport and binders are easy to organize but a pain cuz they’re big. Also, I mentioned my classes because I wanted to know how much note taking is involved (if you know). What do most people use?

You really have to wait and see what the class is like. If there are a lot of handouts, then binder, if not, notebook.

For my science classes, I usually take a notebook to class to take notes, and keep a binder in my room for handouts, practice tests, that sort of thing, because you don’t need those in class everyday.

For writing, my teacher loved handouts, so I brought a binder everyday. I went over my print quota twice because of her.

Thanks!

I’m planning to have just one binder to take around with me everyday and then have binders for each class in my room and just transfer notes into those at the end of the day or week or something. But I do prefer notebooks which is why I asked. I just didn’t want to carry 4 notebooks at once, since i have classes back to back. Nor do i want to get like a 5 subj notebook cuz of the limited space in each section of it.

I’m not one to answer the original question (i’m an incoming freshman as well) but I was wondering how many students actually take laptops to class…especially if it’s a large lecture like chem or psych or something?

meh. a good amount. I prefer notebook cuz I don’t like lugging that thing around all day, but I know people who take all notes on their laptop.

Laptops are good if your professor puts their powerpoint or whatever online before the class. I find it easier to follow along and it helps to go back to previous slides. But nothing beats paper for speed note-taking, for me at least.
