I know this was kind of discussed already but I still cannot decided between a Mac and a PC. I am definitely going into business so I will be using Excel very often. I was wondering if I get a Mac would that limit me in a way. I do realize that you can add Microsoft Office on a Mac but does that mean that the formulas and advanced stuff I learned would be different. I saw a Word on a Mac and it looked different. Period. So, I am afraid as business major whether the Mac will hurt me somehow. I just need someone to finally persuade me which one to choose. Thanks.

You're fine with a Mac if your only doubt is Excel. The apperances are different, but programs are the same.

I am not a PC or Mac fan boy. I use what gets my job done.

Business school requires you to use a Windows PC as the have programs that will only run in a Windows environment.
That said, you could run Parallels or Bootcamp, but then you have the added expense of these programs including the FULL version of Windows Vista (XP is no longer available).

I use both computers.

I even use a MacBook Pro with Bootcamp and Windows Vista.
There are some small issues with Vista, like lack of battery life due to really crappy power management support for the apple batteries. This may change in the future.

I really suggest the PC in your case, since you don't want to spend un-needed cash, and you don't want to end up playing catchup, that really sucks, especially with how much money you will be spending on your future here at the University.

Thank you so much. Is it true that with Vista, you cannot download illegal music? It's not that I download illegal stuff night and day but a couple of songs here and there for the ipod.

So there is a difference between robbing a liqueur store and a bank?
So basically you just confessed to doing something illegal on a public forum. Not very smart are ya?

I guess not...but there is a whole thread on how to do that and what programs to use in the College Life Forum. So many people have confessed and even given advice on how to do it there. And they say us CC kids are above avg..haha.

Yes, but as a UVA Student... well... you should be above that crap. :)

Yes, true, true. Well, if that's going to make you feel better, the stuff is all music from my native country that I cannot buy in the stores near me. So I am very much in touch with my culture and thus bring diversity to the University Hope you give me credit for at least trying to make it sound better :)

Going on with the not-so-smart theme, I have another tech question. Do you think it's worth it to skip Vista and hang on to XP until Vienna comes out?

I am using Vista on 4 of my main computers with the exception of one (due to some Dell RAID software that is not supported by Vista). I don't have time to mess with it.
I find Vista super stable. I was really impressed. I even have it running as the main OS on my Apple MacBook Pro 15. I am not a mac fan boy, but I do like the design, and feel, from experience that the Vista OS is a much better system.
But it is up to you. People still cling to windows 98. UVA supports Vista, so why not use it.
Look at it like this... the OS runs the computer... that is it. While here you will be using Office and the Internet. With a radio program, chat, anti-virus, anti this and anti that programs, and email running in the back ground.
Vista does a really good job at doing that. Just make certain you have 2GB running and a large video card.
