I have been using 1 subject notebooks for a few semesters now. though after I got my laptop, its been kinda heavy. so I wanted to ask your opionion what is better.

Should I keep using separate notebooks for each subject, or is it better to have individual folders/small binders for each class then only carry one notebook or pad and then at the end of the day put everything into the folder or binder.

first semester, i planned to use an individual notebook for each class, realized that i didn't really need notebooks for any of my classes, and ended up using just one... this semester, i'm still using one subject notebooks, but i use them for more than one class each... for example, i'm taking two film classes, german, and anthropology.... so, film notes go in the same notebook (i just title the page with which class it is), german has its own notebook, then i have another for anthro and whatever else i need it for

I used to do the 1-sub notebooks, but then I kept grabbing the wrong ones or forgetting one altogether.. so then I started using 3-5 sub notebooks so that I'd only have one to carry around & it'd still be sorted. I've also noticed that 1 sub notebooks have more pages than I actually use in the class whereas the multi-sub notebooks have just a few extra pages so I feel less wasteful. I don't like binders, too bulky & I just shove handouts in the pockets anyway instead of hole-punching.

I just get one 3 subject notebook for the semester and it works fine. Once, I had to buy another small notebook to finish out one course, but it doesn't make sense for me to buy one notebook per class, since it takes up space, it's easier to get lost, and I hardly ever come close to filling them up.

wait, does the latter mean you only have ONE notebook for all of your courses. bring that one notebook to every class and take notes, then just rip out the pages and put the pages in your respected binders?

yeah you got it, have one notebook. Carry it to every class, and then at the end of each day tear out the pages and put them into the proper folders or small binders. I see it as really making my bag lighter everyday, especially for days that I have more than 2 or 3 classes. It will save paper, as there is much less of a chance for unused notebooks. It will be better organized also.

I have about 3 spiral notebooks and I just pull random one out and start taking notes for the day. I almost never tear out the pages unless I'm doing homework (which I do in the same notebooks)

Call me disorganized, but it works for me. I don't usually have too much trouble keeping track of which days notes are in which spiral, since I purposefully choose different colors and try to use only one color per day.

The one exception, if I feel really dedicated, or if I think I took really good notes that I want to save, I'll tear out and staple all the notes for one class all together in order.

Then I use one subject notebooks for notes (in class and from my studying). Maybe not the best idea, though, since occassionally I forget to bring the right notebook, and I do have tons of pages left in the end (especially since I use my laptop to take notes on during my history classes). Though one nice thing is that I use the same notebook more than one semester if there's enough room and if it's the same subject. For example, my Rhetoric notebook is lasting me two semesters, and I just have a page between the notes for each of the two semesters to divide them.

I use two three subject notebooks. One for MWF, and the other for TTH. It seems to work for me. I thought about just going with one 5 subject notebook, but I think that it might be too fragile, so I'll just keep using the two three subject notebooks.

I used to buy 1-subject notebook for each class, but like so many others I never even came close to filling them up.
I now buy the much smaller notebooks and use one for the entire semester. I find with the smaller page it is easier to read, considering my poor penmanship.
I have learned it's important to take "notes" and not attempt to transcript the entire lecture.
I find it much easier to write down questions as well. If you are shy, then you can wait until after class, go to office hours or email the professor with them.
If it is a powerpoint lecture, then ask the pro for a copy with they normally don't have it electronically available otherwise.
Oh, and I usally wait until Mid-September to stock up on my notebooks. Target is great at putting them on clearance at this time. It normally carries me through for 3 semesters this way.
