Notes from November CUA Open House

The Open House was impressive. There may have been 200 potential students, and they put on an outstanding program. We attended the session for Business and Economics. The professor said that right now, the marketing courses are most popular. He said that personally he likes finance best, due to its breadth, but that the accounting students have been doing very well jobwise. He talked about internships. He advised everyone to learn as much Excel and Microsoft Office as possible, because if you are good at it, an internship usually turns into a job. I was also impressed with the First Year Experience program. It is designed to aid the students in adjusting to college and to improve the retention rate. I found out by asking questions that CUA does use the weighted GPA if it is higher than the unweighted. They are pretty flexible and will even look at third quarter grades if the person is borderline. The honors program is even flexible about GPA. One important and unanticipated thing that I learned was that to continue with a foreign language there (as opposed to starting a new one) you need to have a SAT 2, AP exam, or IB exam score. However, you do not need it for admissions reasons and can obtain it later. I will add to the thread as time permits if I think of anything else or if people ask questions.

Thank you so much for the visit report. I knew those SAT 2 tests would come in handy. So happy to hear they use the weighted GPA.

I will read your other posts and ask if I have any more questions.

Thank you so much again for the info.

Thank you! I was wondering about how CUA’s business program is. I think I will apply like I was originally planning. :)
