Nothing but perfect score in IMO

senior in SMS (school of mathematical science) Peking Univ. China
GPA 3.6 25%
no much experience in research
Which level of universities in US fits for me?

You got a perfect score in IMO?

As I recall China placed #1?

yes, but poor performance as undergraduate

yes, 6 gold

Very impressive that you have an IMO Gold Medal, But what important things have you done at Peking?

The GPA is top 25% at Peking I assume....

Not much research? Why?

This is for a math major, right?

Side note: CC never stops amazing me....

Did you have any interraction with Feng from Exeter? I'd say your chances of acceptance are very good......a nice accomplishment for your application. What schools are you applying to???

what do you mean by poor performance as undergraduate???

of course math major.
as mathematics students, we do not have much opportunities in research.
:(

WHAT?

You don't have opporrunities as math majors? WHY?

Any awards of distinction?

Sorry i do not know what do u mean "Feng from Exeter"

i do not have a good GPA

i need finish basic classes to prepare for further research, and spend too much time on computer games
:(

Is this a joke?

You spend too much time on Computer Games!!!!!!!??????!!!!

That is not a valid reason in college.
I really don't know what to say, but you better come up with a better reason than that.

thank you very much for consideration and reply

^^^Sorry if that was condescending in any way....

US Universities would want to know what attributed or why your GPA was low.

Other than GPA, how will colleges know about your academic experience in college?

What clubs are you involved in? Are you president of any?

Have you won any math competitions in college?

it is totally a excuse.
stop talking about what is the reason for poor performance.
please give me some advices about the chances. thanks

Your math achievement will put you in good standing.....particularly at schools with strong math departments. Your opportunity for research will come soon. Will you be looking at MIT, Princeton and Harvard? Are you wanting to do a PhD in math? I presume theoretical?? I think you will be fine......a department will want you because of your gold. You must know other students at these schools for they have participated in contests against and with you.

only a model competition in college, but only third award.
some clubs such as cycling association, no president

That's my point it isn't an excuse.

Do you honestly believe US colleges will understand when you tell them computer games caused your GPA drop?

NO. That's the reality.

In that case, your chances don't seem to great.

sr6622......have you any idea what a gold in IMO is? Your comments are rather inappropriate for someone who is familiar.

i am considering the schools such as CIT, UCLA, Texas–Austin, UPenn, Brown, no top schools
