I didn't really make the best grades my freshman and sophomore years, and am now having to deal with the ramnifications of that - I didn't get in to my number one choice, the University of North Carolina.

Schools I have gotten in to:
Appalachian State University
UNC Wilmington
The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss)
East Carolina University

Which do you think I should attend based on prestige/quality of education?

I'm leaning toward UNCW or Appalachian, as both are tier 1 schools, that are actually pretty decent. ECU is an obvious no, as it's nickname is easy U (meaning that's where you go if you don't get in anywhere else). I'm ruling out Ole Miss as well - it's kind of regarded in the same way that ECU is, and it's out of state, so more expensive.

of the schools you’ve listed, App is the most prestigious. Though, to be honest, I feel seriously wrong putting that word in the same sentence with App. None are “prestigous”

I’m well aware of that fact. I meant prestigous relatively. Most of my friends are going to schools like Vandy, UNC, Brown, or Georgetown etc, and it’s really hard being the one of them that won’t get to go to as nice of a school when I’m just as intelligent. And just FYI, I personally know someone who turned down Yale to go to App’s music school!

btw, its pretty easy to transfer to UNC from other UNC schools, like Wilmington. It happens a lot. You could do well the first year and transfer, not too hard I don’t think.

I vote for UNCW. It’s the most selective of the four schools and is the strongest in the liberal arts. Wilmington is also more interesting than Boone, Greenville, or (arguably) Oxford.

One of your past posts indicates an interest in biology. Biology is strong at UNCW, and only a half dozen universities can match it in marine biology.

I spent a summer at App recently, and while I absolutely love the location, it can get boring fairly fast. King Street is a pale imitation of Franklin, and while I really like Boone, it’s not a bustling town. Facilities are a mixed bag – the library, student union, and the new dorms are extremely nice (better than at some of the elites), but some of the older academic buildings (English, education, etc.) are antiquated and in the process of being renovated.

Still rankled by that ignominious defeat by App State, I see.

UNC-W or NCS are probably your better choices… You can always transfer into UNC-CH later.

I’m surprised that you didn’t get into UNC-CH…You’re in-state right, your SAT - M:670 Cr: 700 seem like they would have been high enough. Was your GPA lowish?
