I heard that you're supposed to send a $200 deposit or something if you're committed to Yale by May 1, but I can't find anything on their website about it. Could somebody point me in the right direction...?

I could have sworn I read that there was no deposit required.

^ this is true… I checked.

My daughter is a Yale freshman. We paid two Yale bills last year, one on July 22nd for fall semester, and the other on November 5th for spring semester. No deposit in the spring, unlike most other schools. I don’t expect to see another bill until the end of July.

They do offer a monthly payment plan (YPP), and charge $100 per year if you use this option. This plan allows you to pay over 10 months. You can pay for fall by making five monthly payments starting in May, then pay for spring semester in 5 monthly payments starting in October. This is according to a letter I got this week and may be specific to soph-seniors. I assume freshmen will be offered something similar, but maybe the deadlines will slide a little, since you would get about 5 minutes to celebrate your decision to go to Yale before the first bill comes. UGGG.

The above might be of interest to your parents…

Yale has an automatic billpay system that is pretty slick- you’ll be required to fill out the paperwork for that in the near future, leaving no mystery whatsoever about when payments are due :)

okay, so if there’s no deposit, how do I confirm with them that I’m planning to go there??

If i remember correctly, there should be something on the admitted student website where you can confirm that you are going to Yale. If you can’t find it you should ask on one of the boards on the admitted student website since those of us on CC can’t see what it looks like.
but like others said–no deposit. (i remember lots of people asking this same question last year and questioning if they missed something too)
