Hey guys, I just wanted to see where I stand…I submitted my app Nov. 1, and have yet to be contacted with a confirmed account or for an interview. I am in a rather populated school area (New York), but is anyone else in the same boat? Also, if you are not contacted for an interview, does it mean anything? It may just be a myth, but multiple people have told me different things. Thanks.

i submitted my app the same day and haven’t received anything yet either. it’s making me crazy to wait, but i expect it’s just because they have so many applications coming in

I am a Brown interviewer, and have been for 30+ years. I know a lot about how the Brown interview process works.

Brown wants everyone – I’ll repeat, everyone – who applies to get interviewed. There is absolutely, positively no connection between who gets interviewed and who is going to be accepted. Trust me on this.

The process: Your names are put in a database. An alum goes into the database and assigns applicants to alumni volunteers, who get an email with your name and contact info.

If you haven’t gotten a call – it’s most likely because the alum in charge hasn’t made the assignments or the alumni interviewer hasn’t looked at his/her email or has gotten the email with your name and hasn’t contacted you yet.

Don’t worry yet. If you hear nothing by Nov. 20, then call Admissions.

I think it’s also related to where you live. That is, if you live in an area where there are lots of alums, you’re more likely to hear within a short period of time. If you live in an area where there aren’t as many alums, it’ll take longer. Right, fire&rain?

HPN, you could live in an area where there are so many Brown applicants that it also takes a while longer than other areas.

I just got assigned my first person now and for ED we have over a month before the interview deadline and RD quite a bit longer.

It may just be that because your in a highly populated area it’s taking some time for your region head/chair/whatever it’s called to assign out the interviews to volunteers.

Yeah, thanks for the input. I’m sure there’s a lot of kids applying ED from NYC.

It really has nothing to do with where you live (although in NYC,where there are so many applicants, it might take longer to make the assignments). It’s totally dependent on the alums who make the assignments and the alum who gets the assignment.
