Hey all…My D will be attending ASU this fall…anyone know when notification about housing assignments will occur? She submitted her request in early December for Palo Verde East, followed by PV West, and PV Main. Likely she will get her first choice?
Best,

I suggest you call the housing office. They will let you know if she has been assigned yet or when you can expect to hear. My recollection is that my daughter had received her housing assignment by mid-April last year.

I spoke with someone from the residential office at the end of last week and they informed me that they are very far behind this year. They said to expect housing assignments by mid to late May.

yea...they were supposed to come april 1st if you applied before january. My friend called the first week of april, they said they would come the next week. Then, my friend calls again last week, and they say they are coming this week. Now its mid-may. They keep changing! ah!

I applied in november.

Interesting...when I called earlier this week, the Housing folks told me that hadn't even started to work on the assignments, and not to expect anything until after the first of June!

I have been awaiting a response too! I was anticipating April because it did say we would be notified then, but i too had a friend recenty tell me that when he called, they said not to expect anything till summer. Why are they so behind?

oy vey!

Well it SHOULD be (my sister's a junior there now, so we went through this before), that we get our building assignments in april, and then the specific hall and roommates in july. But then they changed it to may. It sounds like we'll just get all the information in one clump now.

All of the info in one clump sounds good actually.

You can call residential life now, with your ASU ID number and ask what dorn you are in.

I am very confused about my assignment.

I applied for Hayden, then Best, then Irish (all honors dorms) and was placed into Hassayampa (non-honors).

I applied in November, and at Orientation, a woman had told me that because I had applied so early, and that I was honors, that it should be guaranteed. I talked to a guy the other day that only applied a few weeks ago, and his advisor had told him that he was guaranteed honors housing.

It's just really strange to me. Hassayampa is brand new, and a LOT of people are putting it as their first choice, and not getting it, while I don't even have it on my list, and am placed in there. Plus, I really doubt that many students put Hayden as their first choice before me.

Now I can't decide if I should request to live in another dorm, or stay at Hassayampa, because there are pros and cons to each one.

Christalena2, you should call residence life and discuss this with them -- not with the student who answers the phone, but with a senior residence life staff member. Explain your situation and ask for a transfer. They may have you fill out another form (asking to change). When you send it in (or hand deliver it since I believe you live in the area) include a letter explaining that you had applied in November and were assured you would get Hayden. Afterwards , stay in touch and keep asking. I have heard they had some kind of massive problem assigning housing this year -- might have been a computer glitch -- so they may not have had your preferences when the assignment was made. In any event, go plead your case and good luck. You are right that with all of the people clamoring to get into Hassayampa it is very strange that you were assigned there.

Interestingly, I called the Housing Office today, and they told me that they are not releasing information since they found some discrepancy in dorm assignments between their computerized records, and the letters being mailed. My daughter then called and was told that her assignment hadn't been made yet. She sent her deposit in the first week of December....she requested Palo Verde East, followed by PVW, and PV Main, mostly due to their location. I wonder what the chances are she will get one of her PV choices?

Wow, so I may be in Hayden after all...who knows... I guess Ill just wait until the letter comes. Did they say when that would be?

"she requested Palo Verde East, followed by PVW, and PV Main"
Although the PV's are rather popular, I bet since she applied before january that she'd get into at least one. I hear the pv's are major party dorms, but not to the extent as manzanita or san pablo.

Hey all...called Housing office today...they had my daughter's room assignment...PV East...her first choice. Roommate info comes later.
Now I just have to find out when move in day will be so i can get my schedule all squared away....atleast some information was available!

Hi, I just wanted to give you some advice on the move in thing. If PVE has multiple move in days, you can move in on the first one, regardless of when your assigned date is. My daughter was in Manzy last year and her move in date was on the third of three Manzy move in dates. We moved her in on the second with no problems. The school doesn't encourage this, but once the dorm is open for move in, all comers are welcome. I'm not sure if PVE has multiple move in dates, however. In any event, moving in is a real experience for all -- fun, excitement, heat exhaustion and hard work. Enjoy.

The move-in day will be run differently this year. EVERY SINGLE student has to check in at the stadium, and then go to the dorms, rather than checking in at the dorms in previous years. They may have done this before, but I heard it's new.

Im really worried about this because of the heat. I live in Arizona, and I bet if they don't have tents and water bottles out, people will be getting sick. Not a good idea.

Anyways, lalady, do you have any suggestions for the fall welcome programs? Or what your experiences were with them?

Last year all students checked in at Wells Fargo Arena at their respective appointed day and time (although I think any time that day is ok). Nearby parking was ample. Everything from picking up ID cards and sports passes to checking into the dorm and getting your key was handled there. There were stations for clubs and organizations, and all campus services all conveniently located in air conditioned comfort in one place. It was run very, very efficiently and there were no lines of bottlenecks (other than at sports pass pickup as I recall). Once you completed everything there, you could move into your dorm anytime. My recollection is that we checked in around 7 am, finished by 7:30, then drove to a lot near our daughter's dorm. We checked out the room, met the RA's, and picked up a printed sheet at the dorm front dest that had driving directions for Bed & Bath, Target, and other such stores. After eating breakfast we found ourselves outside the Bed and Bath store with a host of other parents and kids and the manager opened the store a half hour early to accommodate us. From there we went to Target -- note that we thought we had already bought everyting she needed and shipped it -- fools that we were. Speaking of shipping -- there were UPS trucks that had preshipped goods parked near the dorms with pickup available all day. By mid -morning the heat was oppressive for us out of staters and we appreciated the many tents and water stations set up by the parents association. Carts are at a premium. Grab one to move your stuff and get it back where it belongs so someone else can use it. The welcome events were very well run, but I noticed lots of kids and parents didn't attend them. All in all I found everything very efficient and student- and parent- friendly. It was an exciting time and you couldn't help get caught up in the enthusiasm -- even us weepy parents. I also found that the administration was accessible and helpful each time we needed help with anything, something that certainly can't be said for every school, and rarely can be said for a huge school.

Thanks for the reply!

I guess everyone going to one place to check in isn't as bad as I thought.
However, I did get my ID card at orientation...one less thing to worry about.

When I first learned that I was in hassayampa over the honors dorms, I emailed a student service woman at the honors college asking if she could give me some insight into why I would be placed there for some reason.

She emailed me back saying that she would try to get me into honors housing.

I think the people at the BHC are very responsive and do theyre job very well so far. Im enjoying the honors experience so far!

^^ Same here.

I'm living in Manzanita in the fall and Cholla for the summer term. Any insight on either/both?
